I’ve visited this place 4 times, but the last time I went in for a takeaway meal wasn’t the best experience. When I first visited, I loved the retro theme, there’s plenty of seating, and the whole place seemed clean overall. But I’m not someone who likes to eat fish and chips inside; I usually prefer taking it outside or back home, so I went with takeaway.

When ordering from the takeaway section, which is on the right as you enter, I placed my order and waited a bit since they usually cook everything fresh. While waiting, one of the staff started joking around with me, which honestly made me laugh and added to the experience, I didn’t mind the wait at all. After what felt like about 15 minutes, I got my food. Once I got home and dug in, it was amazing: the fish was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and tasted delicious. The chips were fresh and definitely not reheated or rubbery like some other places I’ve been to. It made me want to go back again, and I did, but a few issues popped up on my next visits.

The second time I went in, everything was great again. The meal was just as delicious as the first time. But on my third visit, things slipped a bit: I ordered my meal along with some drinks, but they forgot to give me the drinks. I assumed they’d put them in the bag without me noticing, but it was also my fault for not checking, so that was a wasted £5 or so for two cans of Fanta.

The fourth visit was a real disappointment. I was used to ordering, waiting around 15 minutes, and then heading home with fresh food. But this time, I got my order within just a couple of minutes, which instantly made me think it wasn’t freshly cooked. I had a bad feeling about it, and unfortunately, I was right.

When I got home and started eating my cod and chips, it was honestly terrible. The fish was tough and rubbery on the inside, and the chips tasted stale, like everything had been sitting out for way too long. I couldn’t even get through half of it. I haven’t been back since, but I do plan to give them another chance because I really enjoyed my earlier meals.

It was just upsetting because the person serving me recognized me as a returning customer, yet still gave me what felt like leftover food. I’m guessing she might have been nervous waiting for the chef to come back, as he didn’t seem to be there. Hopefully, next time I go, they’ll feel confident enough to tell me there might be a wait for fresh fish and chips, because I definitely can’t eat what I had last time again.

Overall, it’s a great place with nice staff, and the fish and chips are delicious when they’re freshly made. But if they’re feeling rushed or under pressure, you might end up with stale food, so be aware and double-check to make sure you’re...

Ambience and Atmosphere From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor is a tasteful blend of traditional and contemporary elements, featuring rustic wooden tables, vintage maritime memorabilia, and soft, ambient lighting. The friendly staff enhance the welcoming feel, always ready with a smile and eager to ensure you have a pleasant dining experience.

Menu and Cuisine Jack the Chipper excels in serving classic British fare with a particular emphasis on fish and chips. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a variety of seafood options alongside traditional British dishes. The star of the menu, of course, is the fish and chips – perfectly battered and fried to a golden crisp, served with chunky chips that are fluffy on the inside and delightfully crisp on the outside.

Service and Experience Service at Jack the Chipper is impeccable. The staff are attentive without being overbearing, providing just the right amount of attention to make you feel valued. Special thanks to Charlie, who was exceptionally friendly and made our visit even more enjoyable. His warm demeanour and helpful recommendations truly enhanced our dining experience.

Value for Money Considering the quality of food and the overall dining experience, Jack the Chipper offers excellent value for money. Portions are generous, ensuring you leave satisfied. The pricing is reasonable, making it a great choice for both casual meals and special occasions.

Final Thoughts The restaurant stands out as a beacon of British culinary tradition. Whether you are a local or just passing through, this delightful restaurant promises a memorable meal in a cosy, welcoming setting. It’s a place where quality, taste, and hospitality come together harmoniously, making it a must-visit for anyone in the area.

Highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic and satisfying British...

My friend and I found this place on the whim. We did a search for Fish N Chips and this place popped up with over 2500 reviews. We’ve never heard of this place, but from what we saw from the photos, it looked good. Upon arriving, you fall in love with the outside aesthetics. It’s a very unique looking diner with tons of seating. We came in October but I felt like I was in a classic diner, around Christmas, being served my family owned business. Before we could even open the door, the door was opened for us by the manager who is a tall, handsome faced man who always has a smile and is from Cyprus. After we were seated, the first thing we asked if anyone had a iPhone chargers. They delightfully took our phones and charged both of them during the entire meal. The food is good. It is some really good food. Be ready to get your monies worth. I believe my friend and I could’ve shared everything and still got a good meal. One of the waiters was so nice enough to take photos of us and our food and airdropped them to us after the meal. The manager came by often and gave us jokes and laughs. And don’t leave without trying the chocolate dessert with ice cream. The chocolate brownie cake comes out warm and moist and combines beautifully with the vanilla ice cream drizzled in some sweet delicious sauce. I’m so grateful to God we found this place because we had no idea where to eat. This place is a real treat. Again, if you aren’t a big eater, I recommend sharing dishes because the food is a lot...
