Peter's Cafe is a stereotypical British style cafe in Aldgate, close to the city. As such there's a mix of business people, workmen & tourists etc who come to the cafe. As a typical British cafe, it serves the standard British breakfast of beans, toast, fried eggs and hash brown. This also do a vegetarian version of this which is served with either tea or coffee.

I got the vegetarian breakfast, which Peter's cafe serves all day and tea. I was a little disappoint when the tea came with the tea bag still in it, but I just fished it out. The toast was excellent, not too heavily toasted with just the right amount of butter to give it a nice flavour and went really well with the eggs. The tomatoes were in my opinion, poorly one side cooked and the other side not. The basked beans is well ... baked beans. The hash browns were done in the traditional British style, coarsely grated, well fried and firm to the bite. The mushrooms were nicely cooked, fresh and firm to bite. The eggs fried, sunny side up and I love to eat with toast, but could've dipped the toast in the yolk if you prefer. The vegetarian sausage was okay. It was actually mashed vegetables, rolled into a sausage shaped and fried. It really hard to get something like that right. The sausage just fell apart when cut, but tasted fine.

Overall, a good...

I would have loved to give this place 5 stars. I nearly did. The breakfast we had was great, no complaints. Compared to a nearby trendy place we went the day before it was better value and better food. I had ciabatta with bacon and sausage (ok you’re not going to get 90% meat sausage) which was so tasty. He had egg and bacon on toast. One tea, one coffee. Both loved it. We commented that the waitress was working so hard. However, when it came to pay I knew what the bill should be and she asked for £3.50 more. I dared query it and was met with anger. In the end another nice lady stepped in and sorted it out but even then the waitress tried refunding less than due. Eventually got charged correct amount after it became clear she had charged for something we hadn’t had. Basically, please go there for a good brekkie but check your bill! The crazy thing is I’d have tipped £2 but she...

Real veggie gem! Traveling from out of country, I was in search of a great English breakfast and also was on the constant search for a place that had a vegetarian English breakfast option for my wife. After we found another local location by tower bridge wasn't open for the day, my wife suggested this place. As we sat down, we were pleasantly surprised at all the options including VEGETARIAN English breakfast. Great service, quick and spot on delicious, very reasonable price, great location, close to Aldgate station. Paninis, cappuccinos, hot chocolates, fresh oj are also very good! 2nd day we went back and we all had VEGETARIAN English breakfasts (yes it was that good), family was happily fed again and just loving the cooking and service. It is a gem, for any vegetarians, you can't...

I popped into Peter's Cafe to get a proper full English breakfast inside me before a long journey back to Manchester and it didn't disappoint. From the friendly "morning!" as I walked through the door, everything was just right. Lovely staff who were also very efficient - I was seated and my order taken within a minute. The food arrived very shortly afterwards, piping hot, very tasty and plenty of it. I ordered an extra sausage because it's not a proper breakfast unless there are at least two sausages! I really enjoyed my visit (at 7:15am on a snowy Monday morning) and will definitely be back when I am in the City again. Highly recommended.

I stopped by recently to serve breakfast. Because it is close to Aldgate station, the location was excellent. I was grateful for the staff's efficiency and friendliness. One of the worst full English breakfasts I've ever eaten, especially because the mushrooms tasted like dishwashing detergent. In addition, the space felt cramped and smoky due to the open kitchen. The panini, which I assume is their best dish, is something I haven't tried.

You walk in and are immediately welcomed by a group of jovial women. The food is clean, cooked well and buzzing with both locals and tourists. The coffee is strong, plenty of choice of salad dressings so don't be afraid to ask. What touched my heart was when a homeless man came in, shaking a few coins asking for a cup of tea and without question and no exchange of money he received it. Such humility will only ever be met with success.
