Was very excited to try this bar. Me and my partner are big fans of pirate decor/pirates of the caribbean and of course big rum lovers. We recently got engaged and this was our night out to celebrate. Initially this was a 10/10 experience, we were seated quickly, the menu overwhelmed and the staff member did well to help me choose a drink and the first lot of drinks came out fairly quickly. After about 40 minutes of being there the experience started to become a bit more negative.
We were sat by the door which was left open the whole time and it was freezing. Felt very ignored by the staff, not only did they not take our empty drink glasses away/allow us to order a second round but 2 couples came in after us who were on their second round at this stage, I do feel like the couple next to us were getting a lot more attention as they were more attractive and spoke about holding a christmas work do there. The other 2 couples also got a free shot on their arrival which we eventually did, however we had become very queit and the staff asked if we were okay, I assume they they gave us free shots at this point as we were clearly unhappy with the service.
One particular staff member was on their phone a lot, another often broke out in dance and 2 other staff took frequent smoke breaks, along with this many customers felt neglected by the staff and felt the same as us, that we had to really get the staffs attention to order another round. When we asked for the bill, I couldn't believe the service charge was 8 pound, I felt to awkward at the time to object. The bill paying was surprisingly the quickest they reacted.
At the end of the day, I have really high hopes for this place and feel like it become a great estabilshment in London, only downfall is the service and I do feel like this is something that can be improved on. Especially if they had more attention to detail, focused on refilling empty drinks & all members of staff held the same passionate view of rum as the owner (who was running tables & disappearing frequently which is quite unusual). Maybe a revisit in 6 months will help iron out the operational issues and put in place better...
Read moreA real let down unfortunately and very underwhelming sadly. My friends and I were really looking forward to visiting this bar after reading the great reviews but it was very meh. The bearded guy on the host stand was grumpy and had zero personality. I spent ages reading the menu and selecting my cocktail from a menu that had lots of crossed out cocktails on - only to be told that the one I wanted also want available. The pics of the bar online looked nothing like what it is in person, it looks incredible on the pictures we’d seen but in person it wasn’t a true representation at all. We were all expecting to be wowed but sadly weren’t. We asked if we could sit in the area towards the middle as it looked really nice and cosy but were told it was booked out for a “big booking” that never seemingly materialised. We had a sneaking feeling that they were trying to fill up the front window section to make it appear busy for passer-by’s. The bearded host guy wasn’t particularly helpful at all, he had zero knowledge of the menu and said he’d “only been there a week”. Service was terrible however he had the audacity to charge us service when we received none? All in all it was a very expensive trip which we won’t be repeating. We also noticed other people looked miffed with some leaving without finishing their drinks. The drinks we had weren’t cocktail as none were available so we had not standard cocktails none of which blew us away. Shame as we were so looking forward to this! I will say we ate at Palestine House beforehand which is nearby and the food was incredible so if you’ve read this far try and get there instead as it...
Read moreIncredible place and lovely people! When I booked for my friend’s birthday, I forgot to confirm the reservation and we ended up arriving late as well due to traffic but Gabriel the owner was so amazing about it and so funny! He got us a table and was popping by and chatting about the place and even got us some drinks which was so lovely! We had never been there before but our group felt so welcome! All the servers and bar staff was brilliant, considerate and lovely!
The place is beautiful! We was in awe at the incredible details of the place everything looks so purposeful and intended really feels like you step into a main deck of a pirate ship! We was dressed as pirates because of my friends birthday and it was so perfect matched we didn’t want to leave!
For the drinks and food it was incredible! We had the dead men tells no tales cocktail which was served in an awesome skull shaped cup (very pirate) was refreshing and delicious. Paired with the incredible drink we ordered the salt beef! Which was wonderful, we shared but as soon as we tried it was knew it was mistake everyone wanted more! It was spiced, fragrant and beautifully tender and served with a garlic sauce that matched perfectly with the meat! No notes! Just all round an incredible experience in all aspects. We really would’ve loved to stayed the rest of night but unfortunately had to leave to meet the rest of the party but we will definitely come back soon! Thank you so much Gabriel and everyone at Rhum Tavern for making a pirate theme...
