I have been going to this pub near Oxford Street for about 4 years and thoroughly enjoyed the meals upstairs with my staff. however an extraordinary event happened recently. I went there. unusually, on my own in the afternoon quiet time. I got my laptop out and was recharging my phone. Suddenly a very aggressive manager told me laptops and phones were banned( he pointed out a notice that I actually could not see from I sat ) .I was just in the middle of saving files so said will close when done- he said no close now regardless. I argued to damage it might cause he continued his aggressive behaviour. In frustration sadly I used a swear word which he leapt on to then amazingly then ban me !!! I am the wrong end of 60 and never been banned from anywhere nor met such an aggressive bullying manager . I returned on another day and the staff said they would not serve me I asked to see the manger He continued to be utterly aggressive even when I offered to apologise he refused to accept it and ordered me out I am sure some people will think I was being aggressive but at my age that is not a part of me So I am now banned ( for the first time ever) from a pub I like !!! Of course I will survive that but I hope the manager doesn't and will learn how to deal with human beings who obviously dont mean any harm I will of course not recommend this pub or chain which I have enjoyed using and recommending over many years throughout London a sad day I expect there might be a full reply justifying the cations of an aggressive manager maybe used to dealing with young drunk office staff of which I am neither I will put this in my locker of dining table stories and suggest you give your manager a course on how to handle the older customer. I have never written a review either so another first. fascinated to read the managers justification ......remember he is a bully of the older man whatever he writes But I do like the place and would like to...
Read moreThursday night staff were violent and highly disrespectful. i was part of a group of four, polite and quiet people in our 30s and 40s, enjoying late evening drinks after long day at work. This pub stops serving at 11pm, but at 10:50 they served only into plastic glasses. Ok, odd, but ok. But then at 11, on a cold winters evening, they opened up the double doors to encourage people out. People who just a few minutes earlier had bought a fresh drink. By ten past 11 they were hovering at the table rudely demanding people leave. At this point i went to the toilet and noticed the bar man, who acted like a manager but i don’t know, giving another customer a hard time. When i got back from the toilet, at 11:15, the bar staff had taken our drinks and chucked them away. Then they got aggressive and started physically pushing me and my three friends out the door (2 men, 1 woman), I was putting on my coat on as it started. It was pretty heavy and we are about as far from trouble makers or fight-starters as it’s possible to imagine. The pub has clearly decided on a zero tolerance drinking up policy, but any decent bar staff member, manager or landlord will tell you that’s not the way to deal with the general public, it’s counter-productive, totally unnecessary, and it’s probably illegal. Terrible terrible behaviour. I actually think the manager person doesn’t really understand the way pubs generally operate, and add to that has a decidedly angry streak, so a bad hiring by the company. i dearly hope this decent brewery does something about this rude, abusive, and...
Read moreWent here today for a bar snack, I ordered food and asked for 2 diet cokes.
The bar manager (I believe named Rio) served me, however the cokes looked almost translucent and it was clear the syrup had run out - my sister I was with has worked in a bar for years and could clearly tell this was what was wrong, it tasted disgusting. The manager admitted the syrup had gone and got us two more, but they were just the same! We asked him to change them for a lemonade but his response was - ‘no, if you want a lemonade you will have to pay for it’, he told us there was nothing wrong with the coke, it’s there own brand and it’s supposed to taste like that, it honestly tasted horrid, 4 other people said the same. The manager started being really argumentative and unprofessional. My sister told him she didn’t want to offend him but the drink was undeinkable and we felt having to pay for a fresh one was unreasonable, he wasn’t having any of it and wouldn’t give us a new drink.
I’ve seen a few reviews now about this bar manager and think the owner needs to seriously look at their management choice, as the current one has no peoples skills but definite tiny man...
