I would have liked to have given a 5 star review but sadly the service was a let down on this occasion. No complaints with the food, it was exactly as I'd hoped; authentic Italian food executed brilliantly. We ordered the calamari (cooked well, ignore the reviews saying otherwise!) and focacia for starters, followed by 2 x pizza for main. Pizza are a very generous size and the dough was perfect. Only one small criticism on the pizza, as you can see from the photo the toppings were not distributed fairly, only half had loads of olives and the other half ham!
The service unfortunately was poor. We were served by Khrystyna. We waited at the table around 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged, drink order was placed but not understood (there are only 2 beers on tap, peroni or Sicilian Pilsner so I'm confused why the waitress misunderstood me 3 times saying a pint of Pilsner please!). Beer was served but my partners water was not, waited a further 5 minutes or so with just me drinking for the water to be served so we were unable to 'cheers'. Ordered starters but waitress seemed a little off that I was not yet ready to order mains at the same time. Ordered another drink and had the same issue, beer came on time but water seemed to get forgotten again. This time it was completely forgotten while other tables were having water poured for them! Once again reminded the waitress about the water... Pizzas were served however no olive oil was offered even though it was offered to the table next to us, this should be consistent with each guest. Not only were we not asked how our meal was while eating, there wasn't even a real opening to ask for an olive oil so we had to make do without. We declined the service charge as it was simply not justified, on the way out of the restaurant we were not ushered to the door, I smiled at the waitress to say goodbye and didn't even get a smile back! That was the worst part for me, you're getting paid a wage, please don't get bitter when you don't get your service charge tip. If you actually gave a good service we'd have paid...
Read moreMyself and a friend of mine were looking for somewhere to have a glass of wine and something small to eat. When we saw that there were outside tables available (we’re both smokers) we thought we’d hit the jackpot so close to Victoria Station. We walked in and asked if we could sit outside, no problem. We just needed to order our drinks at the bar. We went back to the outside area to place our bags etc and noticed that every single table outside had remnants, even plates, glasses, etc, from previous diners. This was no problem to us as we’d found a table which was clean. We went in to order our drinks to be met with an extremely miserable bar tender, who seemed inconvenienced by our request. And then we were told we needed to pay somewhere else for our drinks. I found said person, who I can only assume to be the manager on shift. I paid for two glasses of wine and left more than a 20% tip for said two glasses of wine. Then it was time for us to order our garlic bread. One with mozzarella, and one without, and asking for a ramekin of extra garlic butter. What came was one burnt garlic bread and one garlic mozzarella. I asked where the ramekin of garlic butter and the manager gestured saying that it was on the bread. I then said I was expecting it to dip the bread in, and got greeted with a shrugged shoulder. Meanwhile, all 6 of the tables outside had still not been cleared. This restaurant was not busy inside. There was no excuse for this laziness and sheer lack of service. I gave a generous tip for both bar and food, in a hope that it may illicit even a smile from any member of staff. I have been in hospitality for 20 years, and in my opinion, that restaurant was not busy enough to warrant the sheer...
Read moreWe came here for a pre theatre meal, ordered a starter of Muscles - they were nice enough (VERY garlicky, the garlic was not finely minced or even finely chopped it was in quite large hard chunks and still quite undercooked). Then the mains came out - a margherita pizza, and the costolette d’agnello in crosta di pistacchi. The lamb was very overcooked, an extremely fatty cut and was smothered in a mustardy taste - unsure whether it was marinated in it or not. But the mustard was honestly overpowering, it was borderline inedible unfortunately - and it was not stated to be cooked in or marinated in mustard on the menu or website. The potatoes and greens on the plate were fine, not seasoned. Then we sent the lamb back and ordered a spaghetti alla carbonara - this came out and the entire upstairs smelt very strongly of bacon grease, and disappointingly this was all the dish tasted of. The pizza was a pizza, it was nice and cooked well but nothing outstanding. The service was quite unpleasant also, we asked for the lamb to be taken off of the bill as there was barely two bites taken out of each component of the dish - which was met with a huff from the server and a back and fourth with the manager being rather confrontational about what was wrong, after a long back and fourth and staff pointing and following my partner to the bathroom to ask why our dishes were unsatisfactory, I had the dish removed from the bill. This was a massive shame as we were very excited to come here for dinner as the reviews were amazing. The only real positive was the pretty decor and the fairly quick...
