Service terrible. We arrived at 5pm for a pre-theatre booking. Absolute chaos at check in/cloakroom desk with 4 parties waiting to put their coats away, took us 10 minutes of queuing to do so. Taken to our table and given only the a la carte menu not the pre theatre set menu. Had to request that menu twice before we were given it. Seemed odd and I don’t know if that was done on purpose.
Had to ask three times for someone to take a drinks order. I tried to order the House Vermouth blend but was told that wasn’t available , which again seemed odd. Starters arrived quite quickly and were good. Mains however took ages to come and when they did only 3 of 4 arrived. I was left without a main. My mum’s steak was missing the chimichurri. No sides arrived. We sat for about 10 minutes waiting for my main and pointed out to few members of staff that we weren’t happy. There was absolute chaos at the kitchen/pass. When my main eventually came out, we were told there was an event downstairs so the kitchen was experiencing some problems. Two of the mains were cold, which was probably exacerbated by waiting for mine and these had to be sent back. After this course I spoke privately to a waiter and said I was upset about this service because it was a meal for my mum’s birthday. Someone else then came to the table and apologised and offered free dessert to say sorry. I was pleased about this and we ordered dessert. The irony is that that took so long to come (dessert did not arrive until 7pm, when we had arrived at 5) that we were then extremely delayed to get to the theatre. I had planned to order dessert even before Sucre offered it as a goodwill gesture, because I hoped they would do a birthday message/candle for my mum. They did do this but by this point we were so stressed about the time that it wasn’t really enjoyable. We had to ask several times for a card machine to pay. I went to collect our coats to try and speed up the process. I gave the hostess on the door our 3 coat cards and she said “oh god!”. She then struggled to find one coat. Just really bizarre service. There was still a queue of several groups trying to check their coats.
A pre-theatre menu should be efficient, enjoyable and relatively speedy. I thought booking a table at 5:00 we would be finished by 6:30. Instead we only arrived at the theatre at 7:26pm. I was so upset thinking we would miss the start of the show when we had paid a lot for tickets. This was supposed to be a celebration night out and in fact ruined our evening, the goodwill gesture ironically made everything worse. Good food but terribly let down by completely chaotic service...
Read moreBooked here for my birthday and had an AWFUL experience due to how rude and dismissive the staff are. The whole place is set up for instagram, not for an actual nice dining experience.
The food was ok but overpriced for small portions. Wine was insanely expensive and average.
The attitude of the servers and front of staff was awful and made me feel really anxious and terrible on my birthday. They were rude, dismissive and it felt like we inconvenienced them by being there (despite the restaurant being empty). Absolutely 0 customer service. They messed up our order and then the server we asked insisted it was our mistake and then walked away from us, and we had to ask for a manager before they would rectify it. We had to flag down the waiters multiple times for any query as they would just “forget” anything we asked. Had to wait ages for the bill as they kept “forgetting” to bring it despite us asking multiple times. When they brought it they forgot to take off my £360 deposit, so then had to wait again for them to bring a new bill. Bear in mind the restaurant was almost completely empty as we came at 3pm on a weekday. We still paid service charge, which came to over £70, but regret it now as they deserved nothing after ruining my birthday.
Also had lots of issues with the booking process. From the booking process, they kept changing their mind about whether we can book for a large group or not before which was stressful (but understandable as we requested a la carte due to multiple severe food allergies in the group). This caused me a lot of stress as I was told the booking was fine initially, then when I called to confirm a week later I was told whoever I spoke to before was wrong and the booking cannot be made. When I asked why I was not informed of this earlier, as I only had a few days left before the booking, and the person I spoke to on the phone admitted they don’t actually know the policy. I was then made to wait another day whilst they “found out the policy”, which was again stressful as I was running out of time to find an alternative restaurant for a large group. Luckily they agreed to book us I’m the end for a deposit of £30 per person. However, they then tried to go back on the cancellation policy despite my friend pulling out 4 days before, and saying they will charge me for the cancellation (despite a literal 96 hour notice). When I challenged the lady I spoke to on the phone about this, she admitted she had no idea what she was doing or the policy and again said she had...
Read moreThe Bottom-line Atmosphere: Great looks but very noisy. Service: Friendly and attentive. Food: Creative and of good quality but lacks kick and attention to details. Great deserts, good starters, OK mains. Value: Not really.
The Full Story Sucre London certainly creates an elegant atmosphere within its historic setting—a restored music hall with soaring ceilings and chandeliers. However, the acoustics leave something to be desired. As the evening progressed, conversations across the table required almost shouting.
Thankfully, our friendly and attentive server ensured an enjoyable experience despite the noise. Cocktails and wines were flowing. A standout was the Melbec wine.
As a large group celebrating a business launch, we particularly appreciated Sucre's inclusive, tasting-style menu. With multiple small plates, mains, sides and desserts, all had plenty to sample from their creative Argentinian-inspired cuisine.
While beautifully presented, some dishes lacked balanced flavors or that "wow factor" one hopes for at this price point.
Comments around the table: Grilled Chorizo Criollo, Chimichurri : Perfect starter. Crispy Cauliflower Florets, El Hanout, Tahini Yogurt : Needed more yogurt as Cauliflower is too dry. Aged Cheddar, Chilli/& Onion Empanada : Perfectly cooked but add chilli, hard to handle with melted cheese. Heritage Beetroot, Grapefruit, Stilton : Stilton did not balance so quite bland.
Fideua, Guaneiale, Shrimp, Capellini, Aioli : Fantastic, add extra shrimp or two! Monkfish, Braised Spiced Butterbeans, Potato Purée: Beautifully cooked, dull sauce. Chicken A La Brasa, Criolla, Coriander Yoghurt: Excellent dish. Argentine Striploin, Chimichurri: Prime dish an good meat but served too cold.
Baby Gem, Pistachio Dressing, Fresh Herbs : Great side. Kohlrabi & Apple Salad, Pomegranate, Dill Cream: Good dish but swimming in liquids. French Fries: Good.
SWEET Chocolate Cremeux, Earl Grey Cream, Pear: Excellent. Maybe less Cremeux for better balance. Crème Caramel, Dulce De Leche, Cream: Everyone's favorite around the table.
Conclusion: While the historic setting immerses diners in lively atmosphere, attention to acoustics and flavor nuance could elevate Sucre's cuisine from...
