Temple of Seitan is my favourite fast food chain and their Hackney location lived up to my high expectations. This location is super convenient being just a few minutes walk from Hackney Central. Note that as with many of their spots it does not have a large amount of seating. I started off with my favourite burger the Nashville Hot. This batter I think steals the show because the seasoning is simply amazing. It gives the heat you need that perfectly compliments every other aspect of the burger. As a side I also had the Mac & Cheese, I would say to anyone don't be afraid. I genuinely dislike vegan cheese and remove it from any dish I find it on but this is different. The sauce is creamy and tart without the awful vegan cheese after taste, I also love the smokey bacon which really pulls it together. I also ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings out of pure gluttony and had no regrets. The seasoning was phenominal and worked so well with the fibrous seitan and crunchy batter. I then finished it off with a delicious biscoff shake which never disappoints, super creamy and delicious. Overall all I would definitely advise giving Temple of Seitan a go regardless of location and see how good it is...
Read moreI hate to do this review because little vegan spots are usually my favourite, but I have to be honest.
The staff here seem distant and disinterested towards us and the other people who came inside to buy their food. Throughout our stop here, we watched them bizarrely arguing with the various delivery riders that came to collect food people had ordered. There was a strange and negative atmosphere.
I guess the staff were somewhat overwhelmed, stressed and struggling to cope, but taking it out on customers and drivers isn't right.
Aside from that, we sat and waited 45 minutes to eventually be served our food. The vegan doner wraps and chips were cold. No sauces were offered so it was also bland. The wraps were put together uncaringly and were loose and falling apart. It was a mission trying to hold them together to eat. The chips being cold, made them really difficult to enjoy and having no ketchup didn't help.
No tissues/wipes were ever provided so it was messy with the loose, floppy wraps and we left feeling dirty.
It was just overall a poor experience and I'll probably never enter the place again. I'm unlikely to order for delivery either...
Read moreHad an awful experience. I'd come here when it first opened and we could take our food next door to The Globe and have a pint with our meals, but it's a far cry from what it used to be.
Anyway, ordered some popcorn chicken, but they didn't even start making our order until 10 minutes after we placed it, when they only had 2 tickets on at the time. They didn't say hello when we first entered the restaurant as the short, stout woman behind the counter was on a phone call with her phone on loud speaker and in a language I didn't understand, while the other woman was wiping surfaces and closing down the kitchen as it seemed they wanted to get out as fast as possible.
When we asked for a refund and why they started making our food so late and non chalantly, they were rude and said we were lying, then we showed them the current time matched up to the ticket time, and it had indeed been 10 minutes elapsed. We ended up leaving and going next door to the taco place in the end.
I wouldn't have even minded waiting longer, but their attitude and lack of service was appalling. Not a sorry in sight. Some advice; get rid of those workers for the good of...
