🚇Tottenham Court Road 🍺 £6.70 Taddy Lager
The Blue Posts is located at the southern end of Fitzrovia in Central London. The nearest Tube is Tottenham Court Road.
This pub dates back to at least the 1820’s and was rebuilt in 1896. Karl Marx is said to have attended meetings here of the Communist Club in the mid-1870s.
There are five Blue Posts pubs located in Central London, so why the name? here are the two main theories. The first is that blue posts were once used to demarcate the boundary of a royal hunting ground. The second is that blue posts were the forerunners of taxi ranks. Sedan chairs could be hired from any location sporting azure blue posts. The pub’s sign shows a sedan chair on it, so i’m going with option two.
This is a two bar Sam Smith’s pub which has a main bar on the ground floor and a second bar for dining on the first. The decor is traditional with leaded frosted windows, dark wood panelling and exposed wood flooring. The servery is centrally located and has an ornate mirrored back bar. To the right of the servery is a dartboard with a drinking ledge and poser table. There is plenty of seating throughout both high and low level. On the first floor is an elegant Edwardian-style bar but unfortunately it wasn’t open.
As with all Sam Smith's, the beer selection is all in house produced brews. I decided on a Taddy Lager, my pint was decent, price point was high, in just seven years this lager has almost doubled in price. The food menu is classic British pub grub.
I arrived just before 5pm on a sunny Wednesday afternoon in September. The pub was quiet, a couple of punters were conversing inside and a few were sat outside. Soon after I arrived, the pub started filling up with local workers gasping for a post work drink. The service was excellent, I got chatting to the friendly Guv’nor who was telling me all about the good old days of being a Landlord in Central London.
Visiting The Blue Posts was a pleasant Central London Sam Smiths pub experience. The beer was on point if pricey, I loved the decor and architecture, the service was welcoming and friendly.

Read moreThe rule about no phones or laptops is a little unacceptable. I visited on my own whilst I waited for a local appointment. I was just looking for somewhere I could have a drink and finish off some work but was told to put my laptop away by staff. They say it's something to do with keeping a london pub vibe. But I was there on my own and the whole point of me entering the pub and buying a pint was to sit and sort a few bits whilst I waited. If anything, being forced to sit awkwardly made the atmosphere worse and also meant I wasted money on a pint I could have purchased at a more accommodating place. Staff said that the landlord had been known to fire team members over this rule so that tells you all you need to know about the...
Read moreThis is one of the usual haunts for our Friday night pub visits. I’ve found that the staff are fine if a bit rushed, the interior is small but the exterior is large and you can drink or eat outside without spilling on to the road.
The Banksy that was on the wall across the street has been painted ver which is a shame as it is now an ugly beige wall leading to grey instead of the really interesting Banksy picture however the pub is enjoyable nontheless.
This Blue Posts is very close to several others. If you’re meeting folks here, make sure you all go to...
