I’ve been coming to The Meat & Wine Co. since its original location in Westfield, back in 2013/2014, and it’s remained one of my absolute favourite places for steak in London. Now at their Mayfair location, the quality, flavour, and experience continue to be outstanding.
The steaks are truly the star of the show. I usually go for either the fillet or ribeye, and they’re consistently phenomenal; juicy, perfectly cooked, and infused with that signature charcoal flavour.
You can choose between 200g/250g/300g/350g (depending on the cut you choose, for fillet it's either 200g or 250g) portions, and select the origin of your steak; Australia, the USA, or New Zealand. I’ve tried their aged steak, but I personally prefer the standard cuts. They offer a halal menu, but you must request it at the time of booking.
Their chimichurri, mushroom and peppercorn sauces are incredible, and the thick cut chips are a must. Generous portions overall, and every bite is deeply satisfying. They also have a range of non-alcoholic drinks, which are delicious and thoughtfully presented.
Don’t miss the chocolate and hazelnut fondant. I’ve been ordering it since 2015 and it never disappoints. It’s rich, gooey, and the perfect way to end the meal.
Service is generally excellent, friendly, efficient, and helpful with recommendations. Food arrives promptly and the team is usually warm and attentive. That said, there is one waiter who tends to push for an additional tip on top of the service charge. Aside from that, the rest of the staff are respectful and not at all pushy.
The vibe is upscale and intimate, dim lighting, current-day background music, and a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. It’s perfect for date nights, celebrations, or quiet dinners with friends. You can talk comfortably without noise interference (except for the music which usually is at a decent volume), which is rare for Central London.
This is a high-end restaurant, and prices reflect that; my go-to 200g fillet steak is £69, so it’s definitely a special occasion spot. That said, the quality and experience make it worth every penny.
If you're looking for a memorable, flavour-packed steak experience in London, The Meat & Wine Co. Mayfair is hard to beat. Yes, it’s pricey, but the food, ambience, and consistency over the years make it absolutely worth it. I always return, and always recommend it to others - just save it...
Read moreWas thrilled to attend this venue on its opening night. Overall had a really fantastic dinner. Every single item was full of flavour and had different tasting notes. The restaurant was really clean, and had comfortable seating. The decor and setting fit the menu and theme of the restaurant as a whole. There was a beautiful bar on entrance, wine filled staircase, and dining areas on street level and downstairs, as well as a small outdoor area. The main dining room felt like it had a good community feel to it. The atmosphere was buzzy, with great music, (the waves sound effect in the restroom was also a nice touch). The staff were all very friendly and excitable. They added to the vibrancy of the venue and made it feel like a special place to be. Felt welcomed from the moment we stepped in, to the moment we left. They were very accommodating and able to answer all menu questions. There was a large selection of wine, cocktails and other beverages.
The food itself was full of flavour. Loved the warm, fresh bread to begin the meal. My fellow diner’s steak was well cooked, and came with a generous serve of sauce and his side dish well presented on the plate. Being vegetarian I found there were only very limited options, so this is one area they could improve on going forward. In saying that, this has not turned me away from a revisit. I thoroughly enjoyed my side dishes. The gem salad was fantastic and fresh with so many different aspects from the dressing to the cheese which made it anything but boring. The market greens were also nice, well cooked, and I enjoyed the addition of the nuts. To improve on this, I would either have preferred some more variation of greens (rather than just broccolini), or if this was presented as broccolini on the menu, rather than “greens”.
Dessert was equally fantastic. Loved the chocolate fondant which was plated with elegance and cooked to perfection. Perfect balance of sweetness, fresh and warmth.
Overall, The Meat and Wine Co provided a delightful experience. A lovely addition to Mayfair, I look forward...
Read moreMy partner booked this restaurant for my birthday a few days ago as I raved about The Meat and Wine Company at Sydney. We were seated immediately and given it was a Sunday, the restaurant was pretty quiet for our 6:30pm reservation.
The waiter who served us gave us the impression that he was new. When I asked about their steak, he mentioned to try just their grass aged rib eye that is a popular choice and I had to probe about the others which he couldn’t explain. When I asked how many entrees would he recommend if we ordered their aged rib eye, he answered by telling us that their calamari was good and failed to answer my original question. This left me baffled but I kept an open mind.
When we decided that we wanted to get a bottle of wine and ask for recommendations, a supposed wine connoisseur was assigned to us. I told him my taste of wine and immediately he gave us their specials list. But I was hoping to try their African reds or Spanish wines.. he didn’t seem to listen well to my taste and went on about what wines he like. We did order a bottle of his recommendation which didn’t quite come to our liking and I asked for a decanter hoping to air the wine. It was drinkable but I wasn’t happy as it was far from my liking.
The aged rib eye came out alright but I wasn’t wowed as I have had better. I take ownership that I should not have gone with their unreliable recommendations when I wasn’t impressed by their service and should have trusted my gut instead.
We also order their wagyu tartare and king prawns for entrees. It wasn’t too bad and decent.
Overall, food was decent but I doubt I’ll be returning here anytime soon to give it a second go. My advice, try it once and see how you go but my personal experience, I would prefer a waiter and a wine connoisseur that actual listens and can recommend based on my tastebuds and descriptions and not talk at me and selectively listen to answer what they want. Service is everything and that’s a thumbs...
