This was a very disappointing experience for a Wednesday lunchtime. The place is showing signs of having given up. For a start it was almost empty at 1.30pm when, if it was any good, it should have been packed and buzzing. Two people who were already there when I arrived were receiving an apology for the delay in the arrival of their food. The proprietor had apparently earlier been heard by my companion telling someone who had ordered ketchup that they would have to wait. The two of us eventually got around to ordering food from the menu on the board in the bar. My colleague had the herrings and potato salad (£10). I had the chicken pie (£11). His fish and potatoes (half a small jar of herrings and a handful of new potatoes tossed in mayonnaise) hardly justified the price,. My pie definitely didn't. It came so quickly it had obviously heard the ping of the microwave and had long forgotten the heat of the oven. This might have been excusable had the dish been fresh, but it was so wilted and tired it had no doubt been hanging around since God only knows when. I wish I hadn't bothered to eat it. Filling one's stomach with something so bland and awful is such a waste of time, money and effort. It's so annoying. The service was as haphazard and second rate as the food and, to cap it all - bearing in mind the profit they made off us - there was not even a working lock on the lavatory door. This place could be thriving and heaving with happy contented customers. As it is it will be...

From the moment I entered its welcoming embrace, I was struck by its charming ambience, which effortlessly blends the refined sophistication of a bygone era with the convivial warmth of a quintessential British pub.

Read moreThe owner refused to allow us to order drinks because she said we look 'stupid with your silly hats' and that we should 'go down the road' she also said that 'I really can't see you people buying anything' I am appalled by this terrible service and am definitely taking my business elsewhere, also refused to allow anyone present to use the bathroom even after we offered to buy a drink before we went
EDIT: I would like to just clarify that we had actual proof that we intended to buy here, this was one of the first stops on a 'pub golf' trip we were doing but when I tried to show her a photo of the sheet of paper that we had to PROVE that we were indeed intending on purchasing she refused to look at it and just kept saying she thought we were lying and wernt going to buy anything
She was insanely rude and I will never visit this place again, and I sorely hope no one reading this review does either
EDIT 2: I think she was drunk on the job, she was holding a full glass of wine, swaying, sluring her words and seemed out of it, very unprofessional behaviour from someone who was...
