Great quiet and scenic location, the building dates back from Elizabethan times and it is a miracle that it is still standing. Nothing can compete with genuineness and it is its main draw. I had a quick early lunch after visiting the John Soane's museum. It was the right time to visit as the place is small, and crowded with a surplus of small tables. I just wish the waiter had told me that their portions were humongous and that an appetizer plus a main was enough to feed four people my size. The pumpkin soup alone with two slices of bread would have been enough. But not having been warned, I ordered the pickled herring with potato salad, as an entree which came with five huge, and tasty filets and a bounty of the diced tuber. I could only finish half of it. Waste aside, I was glad to have visited such a quirky place. The wig room storefront is a showstopper. If you need to use the upstairs bathroom, one needs to be young, agile and flexible enough to make it to the top.

I popped into the Seven Stars Pub in Holborn the other day, a place that claims to go back to 1602, but from what I’ve read, the actual building is more like late 1680s with some Victorian updates, according to Historic England. Still, it’s got serious history, having survived the Great Fire of 1666. Walking in, I was surprised—it doesn’t feel like your typical English pub at all. It’s more like some charming little bistro you’d stumble across in rural France, with this cozy, rustic charm that’s hard to pin down. The resident cat, General, was a proper highlight, just chilling and giving the place extra character. I ordered a pint of the general (a beer named after the cat), and the service was fine—nothing warm or special, but they got me sorted without any fuss. Overall, it was a decent visit, and the mix of deep history and that quirky, un-pub-like vibe makes it worth a look if you’re in the area.

The oldest 'original' pubs in London. meaning it might not be oldest building etc...but it started at a pub and has always been a pub. this place is fantastic as some others have said...not typically tourist...very nice welcoming locals and proprietor is sooooo great. There's the local black cat that may come by and say hi. We had Sheppards Pie and Nasi Goreng (they added some Sambal for me too). both Dishes were some of the best we've had. then I also introduced the proprietor to the Canadian 'Crown Float' ( half cider half Guiness). he's like, that's weird but ok. then said...wow..that's kinda good. future customers may even see it on menu lolol. anyway...if you're reading this...and your from Canada..order that so he knows I'm not nuts. highly recommendaking a detour as your seeing the royal Court house and Lincoln's Inn.

This was a very disappointing experience for a Wednesday lunchtime. The place is showing signs of having given up. For a start it was almost empty at 1.30pm when, if it was any good, it should have been packed and buzzing. Two people who were already there when I arrived were receiving an apology for the delay in the arrival of their food. The proprietor had apparently earlier been heard by my companion telling someone who had ordered ketchup that they would have to wait. The two of us eventually got around to ordering food from the menu on the board in the bar. My colleague had the herrings and potato salad (£10). I had the chicken pie (£11). His fish and potatoes (half a small jar of herrings and a handful of new potatoes tossed in mayonnaise) hardly justified the price,. My pie definitely didn't. It came so quickly it had obviously heard the ping of the microwave and had long forgotten the heat of the oven. This might have been excusable had the dish been fresh, but it was so wilted and tired it had no doubt been hanging around since God only knows when. I wish I hadn't bothered to eat it. Filling one's stomach with something so bland and awful is such a waste of time, money and effort. It's so annoying. The service was as haphazard and second rate as the food and, to cap it all - bearing in mind the profit they made off us - there was not even a working lock on the lavatory door. This place could be thriving and heaving with happy contented customers. As it is it will be...

My dear patron, I am thrilled to offer my discerning assessment of the Seven Stars, a delightful establishment nestled in the heart of London. From the moment I entered its welcoming embrace, I was struck by its charming ambience, which effortlessly blends the refined sophistication of a bygone era with the convivial warmth of a quintessential British pub.

The Seven Stars' extensive selection of libations left me spoilt for choice, as I savoured a range of exquisite ales and beers, each expertly poured and served with the utmost care and attention. The knowledgeable and attentive staff were a joy to converse with, providing an unparalleled level of service that elevated my experience to the highest echelons of excellence.

As for the decor, it was nothing short of sublime, with its tasteful furnishings and elegant accents imbuing the space with a sense of understated grandeur. The subdued lighting and cosy seating arrangements made for an intimate and inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a few pints in the company of good friends.

In conclusion, the Seven Stars is a truly exceptional establishment that embodies the very best of British pub culture. Whether you are seeking a refined drinking experience or simply a convivial evening in the company of like-minded individuals, this fine establishment is sure to exceed your every expectation. Highly recommended, and worth...

The owner refused to allow us to order drinks because she said we look 'stupid with your silly hats' and that we should 'go down the road' she also said that 'I really can't see you people buying anything' I am appalled by this terrible service and am definitely taking my business elsewhere, also refused to allow anyone present to use the bathroom even after we offered to buy a drink before we went

EDIT: I would like to just clarify that we had actual proof that we intended to buy here, this was one of the first stops on a 'pub golf' trip we were doing but when I tried to show her a photo of the sheet of paper that we had to PROVE that we were indeed intending on purchasing she refused to look at it and just kept saying she thought we were lying and wernt going to buy anything

She was insanely rude and I will never visit this place again, and I sorely hope no one reading this review does either

EDIT 2: I think she was drunk on the job, she was holding a full glass of wine, swaying, sluring her words and seemed out of it, very unprofessional behaviour from someone who was...
