20 of us dropped by on a Sunday evening after a big event. Most of us found seats around the pub to sit down in, ordered some food and drinks, and proceeded to chat.

We were celebrating the 25th birthday of a friend and had bought him a surprise cake. He had never had a birthday cake in his entire life and mentioned that he always wondered what it'd be like to have one.... so this was a big deal him - and us, his friends.

What proceeded to happen was quite literally the least empathic and lack of common sense behaviour I have ever seen from a retail staff member.

Before we even start cutting the cake one of their staff came over to us and began yelling "YOU CAN'T EAT THAT HERE!". One of my friends tried explaining the situation mentioning we had already ordered lots of food/drinks and that this was an important birthday celebration for all of us... he proceeded to yell back "I DON'T CARE, WE HAVE DESSERTS. YOU CAN ORDER THOSE! DON'T EAT THAT HERE!"

We tried reasoning again and got the same response.

With the moment ruined, our birthday friend feeling ashamed and hurt hurried out of the pub with a flurry of tears streaming down his face.

Whether we care for them or not, most of us will have always celebrated a birthday at least once in our lives... this was our friends first chance to experience the same joy and gratefulness that we all have had experienced when we were children.
