Me and the whole family came here today after a day out visiting London. As Asian food is our absolute favourite food of all to eat we had a walk through china town to find somewhere nice to eat. After having a good look around and reading menus. We decided to give this lovely little restaurant a try. Even though this restaurant appears small inside. We sat down comfortably with 5 of us which included 3 children and a buggy. We was given complimentary tea, water and nibbles as soon as we sat down. We all ordered our favourite dishes to eat and our food arrived in around ten minutes. My daughter does not know how to use chopsticks but the server took the time to show my daughter which was fantastic.
The food, well what can I say other than wow. The food was absolutely fantastic. The katsu curry was amazing. The chicken was perfectly coated with crispy batter and the chicken was so nice and juicy. The curry was amazing and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. The broth that the udon noodles was served in was also delicious. The sushi was also fantastic with really fresh fish. Our baby made a right mess with the sushi rice and was throwing it on the floor and our daughter accidentally knocked a bowl of the table and it smashed (we do really apologise for this) and I always clean up if our children make a mess. However they was insistent that I left it and they would clean up. Our baby loves sushi and he ate so much. I think the staff were even surprised to see a baby enjoying their sushi.
It was an absolute pleasure dining in your restaurant today. We will definitely be back next time when we are in London. Thank you for the...
Read moreSuch delicious food. I just discovered this gem today and couldn't be more happy about it. My partner and I initially planned to try another restaurant as it was recommended on the internet however there was a queue and I didn't fancy waiting. We then walked through Chinatown trying to find something that would grab our attention when we just happened to walk past Tokyo Diner. The looks of it from the outside already had me interested but then we also had a look at the menu and knew I had to try it. There were numerous things we wanted to try however in the end we opted for the Katsu Don, Tofu Katsu Ju, a Nigiri Set and Miso Soup. All of it was absolutely delicious and filling. I don't have a single complaint about the food. The pork was amazing and the tofu was so crispy! Not to mention the sushi and the miso which were also delicious. We were also left impressed by the etiquette in the diner. The employees were quick to react to many things. There is also the no tipping rule there. I always make a point of tipping but I knew that is not a thing in Japan. The fact that they kept that in their quaint Japanese diner made it more authentic. And to make it more wholesome, we had a look at their website and their reasoning behind many choices that they've made since opening the restaurant. I would 100% recommend it and know I'll return there in the future (with friends as the restaurant strongly...
Read moreIt was a good value (no service charge!) and Authentic Japanese meal. The portion of rice bowl (katsu pork) as well as the beer (500ml) are big - in comparing with my experience from Japan and they all taste, smell and look authentic Japanese food to me, except the pork.
Katsu Don (pork): It was well seasoned but a little salty, I particularly like the Seaweed and the rice which is great. The pork Katsu was a bit disappointed as the breading was easily detached from pork meat and it wasn’t crispy at all. The pork wasn’t tender and a bit “too lean”. It would be great if it was Japanese pork from Hokkaido or Kyushu which is absolutely fantastic!
Miso Shiru (soup): It was a great soup and perfect match to the Katsu Don.
Sapporo Lager: It was a can of 500 ml beer, almost a pint! However, it’s glass is too big and it wasn’t been chilled. I usually receive a small chilled glass when I order a beer in Japan. Perhaps, they are fitting to the local way - a big glass of beer, as I found that the other famous Japanese Raman restaurant do the same way.
Green tea: It was the first thing you received once you sit down. That’s very nice and taste great, it recalled my Japan...
