We visited for my husbands birthday, after not being back for years, and had a great experience & honestly wondered why it had taken us so long to return. Our welcome was friendly and our server Scarlet was wonderful throughout. Very personable, kind and helpful with any questions we had. She was probably the most polite waitress I’ve had in any restaurant in a long time which just made the whole experience so much better. Food was delicious and came quickly, we especially enjoyed our starters which was a lovely surprise as we were really there for the steak main. Apart from not having any fillet available (think they sold out), I could not fault the overall experience. The Camembert mash was life changing and will be the a returning favourite in the future! We were also pleasantly surprised by how busy it was for a Wednesday evening - really nice atmosphere and the building it’s in just speaks for itself. The set menu was a great way to have an affordable meal out which held a lot of options for all people with whatever food preferences or allergies they may have. We were also pleasantly surprised but how big the menu is overall and amount of options for people who may not opt for a traditional steak. Overall we left feeling very full, happy and are planning on returning very soon.

After nearly three days of flights and travelling from Canada, this was the first place we stopped to eat with friends of ours on our recent trip. There is simply not enough words to describe how wonderful our experience was here. The whole evening was simply perfect. Our server was very lovely - talkative, informative and had some really great recommendations. The four of us each had an app, a main, and a dessert. We couldn't help it - the food was simply that delicious and there were too many things to choose from! I started with their Barbacoa beef yorkies, which I have been trying to recreate ever since we returned home. The meat was so tender and flavourful! For my main, I had a steak with the onion loaf and the mushroom au jus. Again - cook on my steak was excellent; and the accompaniments were really delicious. I can honestly say it was the best steak I've ever eaten - and I ate all of it! No fat, or gristle. Despite not having room for dessert, I pushed through anyway. While the texture of their brownie was a (pleasant) surprise, the depth of flavour in the chocolate was simply divine. If you havent eaten here - go!

Update: September 2025 Tonight we had the pleasure of visiting Miller & Carter once again. It certainly didn’t disappoint and the food was delicious. We were looked after by Eva N, a delightful server who was conscientious, polite, friendly and attentive. I have dietary issues, and Eva N went over and above to ensure that my food was suitable for my needs. Her service was efficient and discreet, and we all felt very well cared for and valued as guests. Thank you Eva N. You’re an asset to Miller & Carter. September 2024: What a fantastic evening! Thank you so much for a lovely evening celebrating my friend’s brother-in-law’s birthday.

Eva L looked after us and was absolutely delightful. She was efficient, warm and friendly and took care of us exceptionally well. All the staff who attended to us were lovely. I especially loved the way one particular member of staff who we hadn’t seen before (I didn’t catch her name) brought our water over to us and said ‘good evening everyone’. She didn’t just dump it down without a word.

Eva L coordinated our evening and made sure we had everything we needed. There was a lovely atmosphere and we were lucky to have a round table, which enabled us to chat easily with each other.

My friend has mobility issues and also needs a padded seat, which was provided. The restaurant was accessible and easy for my friend to negotiate with her mobility scooter.

The food was delicious and our entire party was delighted with their food choices.

Thank you again, but special thanks must go to lovely Eva L, who cared for us so well. Thank you Eva, you’re an asset to...

Had a pretty underwhelming meal at miller and carter Plymouth the other evening. Myself and my partner were given a gift card as a present for purchasing our first house, admittedly we did not read the back of the gift card (however we did check the website to make sure M&C accepted it). We took it in for a meal but the two staff members front of house were quite difficult about it. They told us they cannot accept it with no solution, so we walked. 5 minutes on the internet in the car park and we managed to convert the gift card to dine in. What a mistake that was!

The same front of house staff looked a bit miffed we were back, but sat us down. Our starters were great, really tasty, however the mains were pretty terrible. The ‘steak experience’ is quite strange, perhaps it’s just us, but I thought a 1/4 of iceberg lettuce with sauce was just odd. Especially being handed this to eat before getting the steak 🤣 Everyone else seemed to get their 1/4 lettuce at the same time, felt like the place was catering for Guinea pigs for a minute!

Without making this review too long, the fillet beef was dry, tough, tasted of burnt and NEEDED the sauce to make it somewhat edible. Not what I would expect from fillet steak.

We have been to steak and omelette in Plymouth fairly recently, and didn’t even have a high quality cut of beef, that was outstanding. Save yourself the bother and go to steak and omelette instead.

My partner and I walked out the restaurant with more lettuce in our bellies than steak 😆

Complete waste of a gift card we could have spent elsewhere. Very...

I would like to share my exceptional experience from yesterday. Two friends and I went for dinner at Miller and Carter, a place I had never been to before but knew of its great reputation.

When we arrived, a friendly host confirmed our reservation and seated us upstairs in our own booth. Our waitress, Eva, introduced herself and was very patient as I looked through the drink choices. She quickly brought our drinks to the table after I made my selection.

We ordered the butcher's block for our main course, and my friends made some adjustments to their orders which included swapping the bone marrow to mac and cheese, which Eva handled smoothly. I ordered an 18oz steak (though I can't remember the exact name). When our food arrived, Eva continued to check on us throughout the meal to ensure everything was perfect, which it was.

After finishing our meal, we wanted to order dessert. Eva brought us menus and cleared our plates, giving us plenty of time to make our choices. Although we were disappointed that the cookie sharing cake wasn't available for one person, Eva kept us informed about our dessert order and took care of our drink refills promptly.

We used a voucher for a discount when we paid, and it was my first time using one. Eva patiently guided me through the process without rushing us. She was professional, hardworking, and always had a smile on her face. Thanks to Eva and the fantastic food, we will definitely be returning to Miller and Carter...
