We wanted to extend the last night of our Alaskan vacation a bit so after dinner we headed to Fletcher's a restaurant/bar inside the Captain Cook hotel for a famous "Baked Alaska" and a drink.
The place (like most of the lobby areas of the Captain Cook" feels like Anchorage history. It's upscale old-school...you really feel like you're somewhere.
I'm a fan of locally distilled spirits and, unlike another corporately owned hotel chain bar nearby, they had a locally distilled bourbon on hand. I tried it - 50 Fathoms Bourbon from Hanes Alaska...a neat shot and it was great.
My wife and I shared the baked Alaska, dessert, because we didn't feel it would be appropriate for us to leave the state without ever having tried one. It came out quick and gave us the impression that it had already been prepared, whereas we heard tales of baked Alaska at other restaurants that are prepared to order and were made with ice cream as their base. This one had a moose as its base and it was OK. I like the chocolate layer, my wife didn't love it, and I wish that our one example of a baked Alaska had been a little more special and somewhere else.
There are a few vegetarian options on the menu if you want to eat here and that's your diet, including a summer berry salad and some pizzas, but not much else to offer without having to modify existing items.
Our server was very attentive and very friendly. We definitely come back and have a...
Read moreThis place is first come first serve. We put our name in. They said 1/2 hour, check in 15 minutes. There is no place to sit and we are older people who actually can’t stand around. We went around the corner from the restaurant in the hotel hallway. Literally 2 seconds around the corner. Went back to check on table after 20 minutes: they said 20 minutes more.. So now 40 minutes wait. Went back again and we discovered if you are not standing there they give your table to the next name. This was not explained to us. There is no place to sit. We ended up waiting over an hour for our table. And then the wait for dinner was unusually long. This we would normally forgive because restaurants get busy. But their seating policy is ridiculous and unfair. God only knows if we stood there the whole time when we would have been sat, if we beat the crowds and dinner was served within a reasonable time. So there is this new technology called text messages. You give them your phone number and when the table is ready you text the party. Old fashioned restaurants who do not use high tech cell phones use low tech call out the parties name loudly in the waiting area. We would have heard our names. When my bill came I tipped the waiter full tip because it’s not their fault. We’ve been eating at high end restaurants since around 1985, all over the world now. This has...
Read moreMy recent dining experience at Fletcher Restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska, was really pleasant. From start to finish, every dish surpassed expectations, showcasing the best of Alaskan seafood cuisine.
The seafood chowder was a highlight, bursting with flavors and packed with fresh ingredients. Each spoonful was a delight, offering a smooth and flavorful experience that left me craving for more.
The smeared Alaskan halibut was a true masterpiece. Cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning, it showcased the natural freshness and sweetness of the seafood. A testament to the chef's skill and dedication to quality ingredients.
And let's not forget the fresh oysters, a true delight for any oyster lover. Served with their secret sauce, they were incredibly fresh, sweet, and absolutely irresistible. I could have easily indulged in more of these exquisite starters.
The attentive service staff added to the overall dining experience. Despite a full house, they managed to serve our food promptly. However, the only downside is, the waiter is overly attentive, giving us the vibes that he is trying to chase us away.
Overall, Fletcher Restaurant is not a bad place for dinning. If the waiter hasn't been so "pushy", it will be a pretty awesome...
