On Friday, March 15th, my son and his friend went to Kelly's to meet another friend and have some drinks. When they arrived, their friend was already drinking a drink at the bar with his girlfriend. My son gave his card to the bartender for HIS tab. However, when he went to pay, he discovered that the bartender had charged his friend's drinks to his tab. My son explained that he did not come with his friend and should not be responsible for his friend's drinks. The bartender refused to remove the charges and said my son was responsible for his friend's drinks. He even claimed to be the manager when my son asked to speak to the manager. After refusing to get the manager, he told my son to hang tight and walked away.
As my son was waiting for the bartender to return, a customer approached him and asked him what was happening. After hearing the story, the customer said it was understandable and returned to her seat. Next, two Allen Police squad cars with lights going showed up. The bartender had called the police over a $15 dispute. My son and his friend he came with went outside and spoke with the officer 'in charge.' After hearing my son's side of the story, the officer went inside to talk to the bartender. He returned to tell my son that the charges would be taken off. He said if they do not take the charges off, come by the police station. It's ridiculous that Kelly's empowered an employee to call the police for such a trivial issue. The employee and the establishment should be ashamed of wasting taxpayers' dollars by calling law enforcement over $15. The bartender should have asked for a card to start a tab or payment from my son's friend when he arrived with his girlfriend. They were already drinking when my son and his other friend arrived! The bartender tried to bully my son into paying for drinks he forgot to get payment for. The police officer told my son he was not banned from Kelly's, but do not return that evening. I will tell everyone about the terrible experience at Kelly's—shame on the employee who called the police, the employees who stood watching, and...
Read moreWe needed a late night place to grab a bite, and Kellys seemed like a good option. We had never been there before. They had a sign on the door saying you had the choice of whether or not you wanted to wear a mask which was interesting, you don't see that often but it's certainly up to the business. The environment and atmosphere was cool, kind of like a burgers and beers type place. Our server said there was something like 50 beers on tap so there's a lot to try. We got various items from the menu, the baskets of fries are huge and could easily be shared among like four people if they all just wanted a side of fries. But most meals come with some sort of side anyway. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. The menu had cheese, pulled pork, chicken, or steak enchiladas, and when you get an enchilada you expect the meat to be inside the tortilla with the cheese and whatever else, but instead it was three cheese enchiladas with a sliced chicken breast on top. So it seems like they have just a ton of cheese enchiladas and they'll add whatever meat to the top instead of making the enchiladas fresh and adding the meat to the inside. As the food sort of cooled off, the cheese became sort of firm on the inside so I'm not sure these are freshly made but may have come from a frozen package? The chicken breast wasn't super high quality, it was pretty flat and sort of pale. Anyway, I'm not sure tossing a sliced chicken breast on top was worth the extra $3 over just a regular cheese enchiladas. But it did come with a side of chips and queso which was cool. It still tasted fine but just sort of not what I was expecting ordering enchiladas. But the server was really friendly, the place was open late, the atmosphere was pretty cool like a sports bar, so this place has a lot of stuff going for it, and I think some of the burgers and stuff my friends...
Read moreMy husband and I’ve been ordering our favorite Chicken fried steak sliders with mashed potatoes and gravy on them for years. They’ve always been amazing, up until this pandemic. We order ALL of our meals to-go, and have noticed basically every single restaurant these days have really had to make major changes. Which, I totally get it. The ones who are open are lucky to be open period right now. So I shouldn’t be so critical. BUT... if they have to cut corners SO MUCH that it literally destroys the actual tastes of the menu items, then they have a serious issue on their hands. Our little Hawaiian buns are normally always so fresh, fluffy, sweet, & good. Not now. Omg. They’re so stale and hard, they’re like hockey pucks! Ewww. We always order without the pickle, as it always made the buns soggy. But this time my husband got confused and ordered the mashed potatoes and gravy on the side. Big mistake. We got a teeny tiny little cup of a hard BALL of gross potatoes with a couple of drops of gravy? Definitely NOT near enough to put the sliders back together like the NORMAL ones USED to be like! Also- they used to put BIG HUGE & delicious fried onion rings in the meal. Boy have they skimped on those TOO!! Little bitty onion rings that aren’t even thoroughly cooked. Thick & goopy batter, with a thick & CRUNCHY onion inside. Talk about a huge disappointment. That makes every single meal we’ve had this past week, a huge wake up call for us. It should be for everyone else too, who’s reading this! What is going ON?! This is completely insane. I know it’s not just us either... I’ve had several friends say they’ve also noticed their fave restaurants have also gone to hell. Doesn’t matter if it’s a 5* steakhouse or a $5 burger house. It’s gonna taste “different” & NOT the same as it once was,...
