Salt & Straw — Restaurant in Anaheim

The place is in Downtown Disney, so I'm not going to hold the premium price tag against them. Fair warning if you drop by, though, they are expensive. They are truly worth the price, however.

We hoofed it across Anaheim two days in a row, went through Disney security twice in a row, and stood in lines around the block two days in a row for this ice cream. What we had wasn't just any ice cream, it was Black Olive Brittle & Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese. While many will look askance at the idea of olives and goat cheese in ice cream, let me tell you of the deep and glorious richness of flavor, stellar creaminess, and salty-sweet-tart flavor explosion. Contrast that deep creaminess with the scattered crunch of the most uniquely flavored candy brittle I have ever tasted, and you have a one-of-a-kind dessert experience.

We also tried the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper, which we thought could have used a tad bit more black pepper for kick, but the flavor balance was glorious none the less. We openly admit to being suckers for unique taste, but at the same time we are seriously demanding regarding the texture and flavor balance of our ice cream. Salt & Straw: A Hot Spot for Handcrafted Ice Cream in Downtown Disney

Salt & Straw, the famous handcrafted ice cream shop that started in Portland, has a popular location in Downtown Disney. It’s a hit with both locals and tourists, so you’ll often see a line out the door but it usually moved fast.

We got a scoop of insider info—my husband heard that Disneyland annual passholders can get a special buy-one-get-one-free deal on pints by the end of July 2024, but we couldn’t find any details on official website. So, on July 4th, we swung by Downtown Disney to confirm with the staff, and it’s true! My husband and I shared a pint of Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, while our relatives opted for the Chocolate flavor and friends opted for honey lavender. The ice cream is incredibly rich and delicious, though it did make me quite thirsty afterward. My favorite one was honey lavender. Given the summer heat, it melts quickly, so I recommend picking it up right before you’re ready to enjoy it if you wanna buy...

I went to this Salt & Straw location once in May of 2019. It was a typical Salt & Straw location with the usual delicious flavors. No issues then!

I tried to get ice cream here in January 2021 during the second Covid shutdown. This is mostly NOT this particular store's fault, which is why I'm still giving a 3-star review, rather than 1 or 2 stars. But... Downtown Disney as a whole has handled this as badly as possible. I talked to multiple employees of this store, and they all indicated that I could place an order online and come pick it up at the store. However, no one made it explicitly clear how the process worked. It turns out that DTD does not allow ANY sort of order pickup. In order to pick up my already-placed order from this Downtown Disney location, I would have had to wait in an hour-long line to get into the parking lot and pay $10 for parking just to get my ice cream, even though I wasn't staying for any length of time. There was no option of parking in a pickup area, walking up to get my ice cream, then leaving.

No one at the store knew this, or else they didn't make it clear in any way. This has unfortunately caused this particular Salt & Straw location to permanently lose my business, even after the shutdown...
