We used to come to Afternoon Delight literally every day before the pandemic - it is one of our favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor! It has been a while since we last visited, so we decided to come back again today. We found the food to be delicious as always, top quality and the portions truly generous. The owner, Mrs Williams, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. My wife really loves the Smoked Nova Salmon Eggs Benedict - during the weekday it is served with english muffin, but on the weekend it is specially accompanied by their signature potato pancake. The addition of capers perfectly complements the creamy bearnaise sauce, making it refreshing and well balanced. As shown in our photographs, the poached eggs appear even with running yolks - magnificent :-). The Avocado Toast AD style is composed of whole wheat bread, light, moist and creamy. I normally order a large tossed salad, which includes one of Afternoon Delight's famous muffins, which in my opinion are the BEST in Ann Arbor! We will definitely go back again soon.
Update 04/20/2022: We came back again today for the ginormous and marvelous Split Personality frozen yoghurt, which comes with a lot of fresh fruit and banana. We also ordered a delicious Albacore Tuna Sandwich with challah bread (which came with a side of our favorite potato salad) and a signature muffin (this time, cherry flavored). Our server, Amanda, was friendly and attentive, and Mrs Williams made us feel welcome.
Update 04/27/2022: Today we ordered the Rueben and the Atlantic Smoked Salmon sandwich (with croissant instead of pumpernickel bread), both of which were flavorful and scrumptious. I particularly appreciated that the Rueben was less greasy than other establishments. The combination of olives and capers in the salmon sandwich also worked perfectly together.
Update 04/28/2022: We ordered the Mediterranean Omelette, which came with a peanut butter and chocolate muffin, and three eggs with four sausage links and hash brown, which came with challah toast. We loved the omelette, which was healthy and fluffy. The eggs were also cooked perfectly, with running yolks and the sausages were non-greasy.
Update 04/12/2022: The berry patch is very fruity, health and light, with frozen yoghurt, so a healthier option.
Update 06/10/2022: We tried the Gazpacho, which is specially available for Summer - it was delicious, light, healthy and refreshing! The Malibu club sandwich was enormous and the béarnaise sauce provided a good...
Read moreWe was in the Ann Arbor area after a Doc. Appointment, and was searching for a Breakfest joint to try out. So we came across Afternoon Delight. After checking out reviews and seeing it has great reviews we said why not lets give it a try. Nice spot, atmosphere was ok and service was nice. Pretty big Menu a lot to choose from and made my decision hard lol. So me and the wife decided to order:
Malibu Club with Pasta Salad and Clam Chowder soup. Pasta presention looks good, but the taste was blend. Clam Chower came out looking watery got a little flavor but i wouldnt consider that clam chower at all. Malibu Club came out huge, looks great but has no Flavor didnt care much for the béarnaise sauce didnt taste like anything. The only thing is ok was the imatation crab meat.
Smoked Nova Salmon Eggs Benedict with a side of Hasbrown. Smoked Nova Salmon Egg Benedict came out looking delicious the presentation and the taste was good. Great job to the chef/cook who prepared this dish. Wouldn't mind ordering this again. Hashbrown was good cant go wrong with that, and i loved my hasbrowns.
Not sure what the drink the wife order but that was also very good. You'll see it on the picture.
Even though i give this place a low rating i wouldn't mind going back and trying other things from their large menuand giving them a 2nd shot. Who knows it might just be their off days...
Read moreI debated two or three stars and decided to round up given how often I've been to Afternoon Delight. If it were really so 'meh', I'd have stopped going, right?
I like Afternoon Delight, most of all, for the kitsch. The old diner feeling, the stupidly restrictive opening hours, the general eh service. More than once my friends and I have been taken aback by something here--getting scolded for refilling the side dish at the salad bar (something we'd thought was part of getting a side), ordering yogurt only to learn that they don't carry yogurt but they do carry frozen yogurt... as in the ice cream... and will sell that to you to eat with fruit and cereal/granola.
Still, the muffins and shakes are always great, and the Veggie Morning Delight is a reliably delicious sandwich in town.
For what it is, it's not cheap. But if you're looking for a cute place to go with friends and you can go at an odd hour (otherwise the line is too long), this could be a cute place to go and the booths can feel private. For what it's worth, though, I prefer brunch places like Angelo's, Aut...
