This restaurant is phenomenal, with unusual, super-flavorful dishes. It promises an amazing culinary experience once you get past their complicated ordering process (online, even at the table), and successfully manage to decipher their arty and bizarrely composed online menu. Tiny-lettered dish descriptions in tastefully nuanced (but almost indecipherable) pastel grey script make it hard to read the text. Things get exacerbated by the presumably fun, but supremely uninformative dish titles (Juicy Sean? Rise of the Johnson??), obscurely labelled ingredients (half sours? zhoug?), and the strange mix of ingredients with allergy warnings. See for yourself in the image below: is ‘sub vegan Spiedo*’ (huh?) a type of tree nut allergy or an ingredient? Does Zhoug Knight actually contain nightshade or is that a type of allergy it may trigger? And what is a ‘Diary’ allergy? (perhaps a rare allergy to journaling paper? [wait –is there paper in the dish!?], though I suspect they just meant to say ‘Dairy’). The point is, there are simple rules of making written communication effective and they all get violated here, making ordering a bit of a guessing game. This was not just me: while fighting to understand the online menu myself, I also watched as 3(!) other people gave up trying to order on their cell phones, and slank to the counter to get in-person assistance. I’m only going to all the trouble of writing a review because the food is outstanding and the staff are exceedingly friendly and courteous, so I want...
Read moreSpiedo is putting out the most exciting, innovative, and (most importantly) delicious food in the area. I highly recommend this restaurant for a casual dinner (or a great lunch). I cannot express enough how thoughtful their food is.
Spiedo does rotating menus of wraps, rice bowls, and sides. The wraps and rice bowls are amazing (the spicy pork, walleye, chicken, kielbasa, and spicy tofu are all really, really great. The falafel’s the only one I’d forgo for the others).
As good as the main dishes are, the sides are even better. The farmer’s cheese is amazing. They had a lemon chicken rice soup for a while that was one of the best soups I’ve ever had. Other ones I’ve loved from past and current menu rotations are the roasted cabbage, griddled potatoes, eggplant, phkali (carrot puree) dip, smashed cucumber, and heirloom tomato. It’s hard to go wrong with the sides - I suggest you prioritize them when deciding what to order. The creativity is just phenomenal - dishes are packed with fresh herbs, lots of texture, and flavor combinations that work very well.
The chocolate tahini milkshake is...

Went in last night for a quick falafel and a drink. Total was 23.40!!!!!!!
One sandwich and a tiny bottle of water!!!! 23.40!!!!!!
No way is this place worth that much for a sandwich. Will 100% just go to Jeru instead for more than HALF the price!
Is it ironic that the best falafel sandwich I have had in ages came from the location of the relocated, Jerusalem Garden? I don’t know, but that sandwich was transcendent.
I picked up the sandwich to go and intended to bring it home and eat it like a civilized person. However, after my initial bite it was clear that the sandwich was not making it home. I devoured it and with each bite tasted new flavors and textures. The freshly made flatbread that it is served on is certainly the cherry on top.
I am truly excited to go back and try more of Their food. So nice to have exciting new food options...
