Aventura is an interesting place. See the last paragraph for a quick summary! The ambience is great; it is very sophisticated with little rustic touches to contrast (such as brick arcs as door thresholds or the occasional tapa served on a finished wooden plate). The lighting is dim, but not pretentiously so.
After you acquaint yourself with the feel of the restaurant, the staff jumps out as extremely polite and accommodating while not intrusive. We sat at the bar and Brian accomplished the impossible: giving us a personalized experience that we believed, and not just respected despite seeing through the guise of being more than just another monotonous cog in his day's life. Very well done.
We started with cocktails. My first was a mezcal with szechuan pepper, turmeric, and agave. The smoky taste was enough to throw me off so I traded it for the Arborlito, a tequila spirit with mango, and chili pepper. My girlfriend had a vermouth with cranberry sage. Our drinks were eclectic, and the latter two were quite interesting (enough to finish), but you can tell Aventura tried a little too much, as much simpler drinks would have been tastier.
The food reached our table shortly after. Their peppers stuffed braised short rib appetizer was to die for. Really balanced dish where the richness of the soft rib meat and the pepper sauce underneath complimented each other. The gamba pasta with squid ink noodles did not disappoint either. The noodles were cooked fairly well, and the head-on prawn was refreshing to see. The ribeye was beautiful, and so tender I ate it with my butter knife! However the chefs overcooked it massively. My medium rare order became medium well.
Flan topped off the evening and was the best desert my girlfriend and I had since Selden Standard. That's saying something!!
If money isn't an issue, I would recommend Aventura to anyone. Food was satisfying, staff was moreso. If you are more frugal or like bang for your buck, unless you choose carefully, you may want to look elsewhere for similar items on cheaper menus. But the items they did have were really put to good use and applied in what turned out to be very composed, intelligent dishes. Some even ventured into...

Read moreThis restaurant positions itself as a beacon of traditional Spanish cuisine, boasting claims of being one of the six establishments in the U.S. that serve “authentic” Spanish paella. However, the experience fell drastically short of these lofty promises. The paella was a complete disappointment—a crime against what should be a celebration of flavor and texture.
The rice, the cornerstone of any good paella, was poorly cooked, either underdone and crunchy or overcooked and mushy in places, lacking the rich, saffron-infused aroma that one expects. Instead of the signature socarrat, that golden crispy layer at the bottom of the pan, it felt more like it had been hastily boiled and tossed onto a plate. The seafood was equally uninspired—rubbery, underseasoned, and far from fresh. To make matters worse, the portions were insultingly small, masquerading as a “shared dish” but barely enough to satisfy one person. It felt more like an overpriced sampler plate than a hearty, communal dish.
The presentation of the paella was another letdown. Instead of the rustic charm one expects from a traditional paella, the dish was delivered in a bland, soulless fashion, as if even the kitchen staff had given up on making it appealing. At this price point, you’d expect a culinary masterpiece or, at the very least, something worth finishing. Instead, what was served felt like an appetizer—pretentious, underwhelming, and devoid of authenticity.
Save your money and your palate; this restaurant’s paella is more of a marketing ploy than a genuine culinary experience. For a dish steeped in tradition and heart, this was a shallow,...
