I have revised my original review; I felt it was necessary.
Both my friend and I stopped here for lunch because we had heard good things about their burgers. Unfortunately, both of us were very disappointed. The menu claims that the burgers are 1/3 pound, but they are maybe 1/4 at best; I would compare them more to smash patties. Both of us ordered medium burgers and they both came out well done. The burgers were low-quality frozen patties; unseasoned and flavorless. Most other places that serve good burgers in Appleton use fresh hamburgers. Apparently, this place can't be bothered, they can't afford it, or they simply don't care. Our other biggest complaint would be that they don't include a side with their burgers; fries are not very expensive and, at the very least, they should be an included side. The owner, a very mean and disrespectful woman, said most of their customers don't want a side, so they don't include a side because they don't want to waste food. How exactly are they wasting food if they include a side for those who want a side and withhold a side for those who don't? At least include fries as a side option for those who want them; nothing is wasted. Her reasoning for not including a side makes absolutely no sense. let's be honest, they don't include a side because they want to charge you more money. $11 for a frozen burger with no side is ridiculous.
I ordered the Beer Dip Badger burger; smashed fried cheese curds, homemade spotted cow beer dip, crispy onion strips, and a pretzel bun. The toppings I received were minimal; three very small onion strips, a few smashed cheese curds, and a sauce that tasted like store-bought thousand island dressings. I was unimpressed.
The owner responded to my original review, as I'm sure she will respond to this one, and was extremely hostile and insulting. She basically told me I had no taste and that she was okay with me not being a future customer; the audacity that I would leave a review saying that I did not like my burger. How dare I. She claimed that her burgers were not your average run-of-the-mill burgers and "Look at all the toppings you received", as if toppings are what make a quality burger. I can name a dozen other burger joints in Appleton that have better burgers than the one I had here. I think she is a little full of herself.
I had no plans to ever return, but after dealing with the owner, I wouldn't even consider returning. I will, however, make it a point to let everyone I know or meet in the future not to eat here.
And P.S. I love Culver's. They have better burgers than...
Read moreHome Burger Bar has been our go-to for high-quality, delicious burgers for several years now. We originally started going for trivia back when they were Mad Hatter, but were excited to learn they'd be focused more on burgers with new management.
Never have we had a bad experience here. We continued to attend trivia for well over a year, only stopping because we had a child and couldn't step away for an evening as easily. We love the staff, the food, the atmosphere; it cannot be beat. It isn't a large location by any means, but it has that cozy feeling that makes you feel welcome and appreciated as a customer.
Anytime someone comes to visit and they want a good burger, we suggest going here. They do take-out which is great when you have picky kids who you might need to take elsewhere. Whenever I stop in, I feel welcome and appreciated as a customer. Bailee is one of the most kind folks you could ever find working behind the bar. She's worked hard to make HBB amazing and it shows.
Now, the food is the star here. While you can also get some great chicken tenders and other foods, the burgers are the star. The Badger, PBJ-Bacon, Cowboy... and so many more to name! I've never had a burger here that wasn't phenomenal. They also offer monthly burger specials to tantalize you (I hope the Lasagna Burger makes a comeback!). They also offer a Black Bean patty if you don't eat meat (and any burger can sub this patty in).
Overall, if you're looking for a great burger and a place with friendly staff in a cozy locally run place, this is IT. I love coming here and wish I...
Read moreI googled the highest rated burger in Appleton and this showed as number 1 so we went. The atmosphere was enjoyable and quiet (around 3pm on a Saturday) and we were greeted promptly by what seemed like the only waitress/bartender. She was exceedingly pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. Cleanliness was good and the bathrooms were clean (ish). My partner said "they're trying" which I agree with. On the way to the restroom there is a wall of famous actors from different parts of Wisconsin which is very cool. The food was brought out quick and was hot. Plates were kind of small but didn't come with a pound of fries which made it manageable and they weren't in baskets. I greatly dislike burger baskets. I had the "beer dip badger" burger with "truffle fries" and she had the "basic burger" with her personal toppings and regular fries. We both thought the burgers and fries were good, but the garlic aioli served with the truffle fries was the kicker and was delicious. The burgers were seasoned nicely and fit well with the buns. Mine came with a pretzel bun and I wouldn't have changed it. I would...
