We purchased takeout on Thursday, February 11th and were extremely disappointed in both the customer service and food we received. We were traveling through the area and after researching places to eat, decided on Acropolis based on the reviews. I ordered online, and found it odd that my order confirmation had a pickup time that was a few minutes in the past, around the time I placed the order. We arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes after placing the order so I called in to see if it was ready. After being brusquely told to "hold" by the male that answered the phone, a female picked up and I had the most vapid exchange I think I have ever had with someone. Here's the convo: "Hi, I placed an order online and the pickup time wasn't accurate. Can you let me know if my order is ready?" "No. You'll have to come in for that." "Well, given the situation with Covid, my husband doesn't want to just stand inside waiting. Can you just let me know if it's ready or if he should wait to come in." "No, I don't have time to do that." "Um... okay, is there someone else I can speak to that can help." "Just hold on... no, it's not ready." "Okay, would you be able to tell me about what time it would be ready." "No." "Okay, I really don't understand. Surely you don't want a bunch of people just standing inside together. How can I find out about when it will be ready?" "I really can't tell you. All I can say is that it's typically about 25 minutes after you place the order." We waited another 10 minutes and when my husband entered, our order was just being brought out of the kitchen, so that ended up being a pretty accurate time, but I can't believe what a struggle it was to get what should have been a really easy answer. To top it off, the food wasn't good at all. The cheese sticks had barely been in the fryer, so they still tasted raw. The pepperoni on my pizza were not even remotely crispy and there were barely any toppings on half of my husband's pizza. Plus, the crust was not at all what I would call thin crust, and we've eaten pizza all over the world, so we're aware of different types and styles of pizza. I ate less than a fourth of my pizza, and my husband ate less than half of his, and we almost always eat all of ours. In fact, my husband loves leftover pizza for breakfast, and he didn't even want to save it for that. That was probably a good call as we were both sick to our stomachs the rest of the night. Based on the other reviews, perhaps our experience was a fluke, but we really regretted choosing this place and would certainly never...
Read moreWhen I was a kid, my grandfather, like many older people, loved to tell stories that no one particularly wanted to listen to. He spoke with a slow southern drawl which to a kid with who thought he might explode if he sat still, was excruciating. But, I knew it was important to listen to him say what he needed and most importantly, I needed to listen because he had gotten smart and offered me a candy bar every time I sat through a story.
Well, one day, he came in and placed a Milky Way down on the table and started in on a story. I had just come from soccer practice and was exhausted and in dire need for sugar. Feeling as though I might pass out at just the thought of seeing that candy bar, I knew this particular story came at the risk of my own health. I folded my arms and said "what's up grandpa?"
He started in on a story about his travels to Greece in his youth. His rambles led us down a zig zagging path of coherence that resembled the crumbling statues in Greece that he detailed to me. How he'd gotten there, I couldn't be sure because of how delirious I felt. I faded in and out of consciousness but kept my eye on the prize. That milky way was mine. He knew the game and realized that he could pull a little more length tonight, for milky ways are my favorite candy.
Did you realize that Acropolis means "highest point"? he asked. No I didn't I'm sure is what I responded. Truth is, I don't remember exactly what was all said because it was many years ago, but what I do remember is how long that story lasted. On that evening I sat through 1.5 hours of my grandpas ramblings. I got that Milky Way. And to this day, I thought that was the longest I had ever waited for food until I entered your restaurant...
I'm sorry but I waited an hour without the slightest explanation as to why we weren't served our food. Best of luck.
Updated Response: The definition of "irony" - a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character. In this scenario, you are...
Read moreA week ago, I dined in and a male server waited on me. I ordered the Eggplant Parm and the eggplant was soggy, undercooked, and bitter. I told my server the eggplant was underdone and even showed it to him; I asked for the eggplant to be cooked more. He told me since I already took a bite out of it, he wouldn't accommodate me. I asked him for a manager. He, not the manager, returned and said he could have my eggplant cooked to my liking but would charge me for another dinner. I told him I didn't want the eggplant but would order something else instead. Then he decided to get the manager. I showed the manager the eggplant and insisted on it being cooked or cancel it. He argued he couldn't reheat it due to health concerns. I asked if he'd discard it and cook me another eggplant dinner but without charging me for an extra meal. I told him I was a repeat customer and was taken aback by the poor service. I said I would not pay for an undercooked meal. He changed his tune and cooked me another dinner. Recently, I returned and waited to be seated. Ten min later, the same manager approached me and told me the owners would no longer serve me. I asked why and he said the servers were uncomfortable with me being there, but didn't specify why. I disagreed, telling him my past experiences with the servers were cordial. I asked if the denial of service was due to the raw eggplant issue, but he kept saying the servers were uncomfortable. Fed up, I told him I had enough of the BS and decided to take my business elsewhere. It's obvious they blame guests for their faults, would rather serve food unsafe to eat, and put profits...
