Great place to get a large portion of excellent food at a reasonable price in Fletcher, NC. We originally saw a bad review but decided to give it a try anyway. I am glad that we did. The location is on the north/east side of New Airport Road just to the east of I-26. Traffic along the road can be busy and challenging at times so please drive carefully. It is in a building with 3 other stores, two of which are restaurants (Moe’s and Jersey Mikes). There are 4 rows of parking so that should not be an issue. You enter directly in front of the counter where the menu is directly behind it on the wall. You order at the counter and they will call or name for you to pick it up The staff was friendly and nice, the price was very reasonable and the food was good. The drinks are serve-yourself to the left of the counter. There are tables and booths to the right of the counter and there is even an outside area where you could eat. We ordered Chicken teriyaki and Hibachi chicken. It came with a lot of rice and a good amount of carrots and yum-yum sauce. It was delicious. I highly recommend it to my fellow travelers.

Most of the food is good, but the things that are bad are VERY bad. Last time, my sesame chicken was very dry/maybe freezer burnt? And the side hibachi scallops were not good. This time, oh man… the pickled vegetables were, for some reason, turned into a tiny sushi roll with barely any pickled vegetables, they forgot the fortune cookies, and worst of all, THERE WERE GREY EGGS IN THE EGG DROP SOUP!! This is the kind of mistake that gets a restaurant shut down. The most basic and important of quality control is to use fresh eggs. I really hope I don’t end up in the hospital tonight because I ate a few bites before getting to the really funky, off taste. Wish me luck. 💀 Edit: Also, the sesame chicken (both times I ordered it) was EXTREMELY watered down. It’s like they pour two cups of water right over the chicken before putting the lid on. This is a sad attempt at looking like there’s a lot of sauce. It’s not sauce, it’s flavored water. It dilutes the flavor and the actual sauce.

The food was fairly good overall. The shrimp tempura roll was very large around, making it somewhat hard to eat, though the taste was good. The ends were over an inch thick making them even more difficult to eat. We asked if they could cut the larger pieces in half for us but they told us to cut them with the plastic knives that were available to us, saying that their knives would smush the sushi. (Just to be clear, the plastic one also did so.) There didn't seem to be a difference between soba noodles and the lo mein, that's something I personally didn't like. The ginger dressing had a strong sesame taste, which wasn't bad, just different.

I was extremely excited to visit Tokyo Express on Airport Rd because it was my favorite takeout in all of Asheville 10 years ago when we lived here. I literally craved this place every time I would see a Panda Express or other such oriental cuisine, remembering how good it was.

We arrived at 9:32 on a Saturday night (March 4, 2023). The place closes at 10. Though I don't make a habit of keeping restaurants open past closing (we ordered takeout), our order would only take 10 minutes to make.

We were greeted at the counter by the backside of the cashier. In turn, I greeted her with a smile and, "How are you?" Nothing. Not the slightest acknowledgment of our existence other than turning around and scowling.

We made our order and when presented with the check, I wrote "rude" in the tip line. I generally over tip up to 20% for excellent takeout service. This service should have begun with "dis-". B other for disservice and disrespect.

I sadly remembered the attentive chef/gentleman who opened the restaurant over a decade ago. I could not help but consider he would not be pleased with her dismissively-angry lack of effort.

The food looked good and tasted good, but I did get ill after eating it. Probably a coincidence since no one else got sick. I would never have considered it might have been an intentional food poisoning if there had not been animosity in the air. And if she had not spoken at length to the kitchen while they were preparing our meal.

"And that was how I was cured of my craving for...

I'd like to be able to leave a review, but we called in an order for pickup 3 and a half hours ago and still haven't got our food.... So, I'm not sure if it's any good or not. I've called to try to find out what happened to our food and still nothing. My husband has been standing there for almost 3 hours waiting, they finally told him they must have lost the ticket and we're going to remake....that was 45 minutes ago. I understand they're busy, it is Christmas... But calling in an order 3 and a half hours ago and still have hungry kids is outrageous. ..... Okay..... Update..... We FINALLY got our food close to wait almost 4 hours. Most of our food was wrong and it wasn't great. My food, unfortunately I couldn't even eat... I have dietary restrictions and ordered vegetable soba without teriyaki sauce and I got lo mein with teriyaki sauce. My husband's food was supposed to be spicy and wasn't, the kids food was supposed to be not spicy and it was.... Just a mess. I've tried to call to see if they could make my food over so I can eat and I'm not getting my call answered. I'm not leaving this review angry..... But I am...
