I love the vibe of this place. They have happy hour on weekdays from 5 to 7 with discounted martinis ~$7 each. My Manhattan was smooth and perfect, my vesper hit all the right spots, and I was initially concerned about the color of my cosmo, but the citrus definitely hits and it goes down smooth and strong. I’d return for the drinks alone as the bartender absolutely knows how to shake and pour!
Monday night crab nights are fantastic and always worth the visit, but this time we showed up on a Tuesday for some of their regular menu options. I always order their caesarish- their arugula Caesar salad- which is such a delight with the bright citrus and spice merging with the umami and salty tang of a good Caesar.
We also had a large pepperoni pizza, but it was sadly too salty and not well-balanced with any herbs or brightness in the marinara. In retrospect, I kinda wished that we had a nice tannic red, like a Cabernet, to balance it a bit more. But alas, we didn’t and those martinis were fabulous.
We’ve also ordered the bolognese pizza before (up North, this particular pizza was also known as a lasagna pizza with this combination of ingredients), so I was excited to have a taste of home. But alas, I was disappointed by how bland the pizza was. The sauce really could’ve brightened the whole dish, but it just didn’t do anything to enhance it.
My wife had the lasagna fries (bolognese pizza toppings thrown on crispy fries) and she enjoyed them. I thought they were fairly bland, so I let her enjoy them solo. It could just be a matter of personal taste, but I feel that the dishes here are just kinda okay, and sometimes hit or miss. But it really is personal preference.
Nonetheless, this place is a whole vibe and I love coming here. It’s close to my home, it’s got that awesome hipster retro energy, the music is always just right, the staff and service are EXCELLENT, and even if the food doesn’t always hit, my drinks do- and at a reasonable price. It has indoor seating in a very retro space, and a nice patio that is adjacent to the street, but that doesn’t detract from the chill ambience (though the train passing every ten minutes or so might).
Still, I come here happily on a monthly basis, and will continue to do so. Again, the service is excellent, the staff is very friendly, and it feels good to have a nice reliable spot in my...
Read moreSo... I have been a long time visitor of Lloyd's. I personally think their pizza is #1 in Atlanta though of course that's my personal opinion. Their mozzarella sticks are incredible, like... God like. They have cheap beer and great vibes inside the actual restaurant.
Here's the thing... I've gotten my window smashed twice in their parking lot (and the second time I didn't have anything in my car, or visible, nothing was even stolen). I've also had 2 friends who have also had things stolen from their cars (though one had left his car unlocked admittedly). Obviously this isn't Lloyd's main service or anything, but after speaking with the cops who supported me when I made these calls, I hear that they visit the parking lot at least 6/7 days a week for this same issue (sometimes twice in the same day he claimed), and have encouraged the building and the restaurant to install cameras or hire security.
I know that the cops recommendation is an extra expense.... But I can no longer visit this restaurant unless I'm ubering because I don't feel my vehicle is safe in the building's lot. I'm leaving a poor review only because I feel that the restaurant is the primary point of contact on these safety issues (ultimately the buildings responsibility, but the restaurant can set up cameras or lights as a tentative measure, and can plead with the building as the more important effort)
I'll have to think about changing my review because it's not really the restaurant's fault, but I think the clientele should be warned of the high risk they're taking when parking in the adjacent lot. @lloyds - if you have made efforts which I've outlined above, and they haven't been addressed by the building manager or something... Could you at least put up signs??
I'll change my review if a sign is posted or some action is taken. As is... I feel I cannot visit their location and bring my vehicle.
I wish I could because their pizza is pretty great, but I won't be returning.
Edit: I just Uber or takeout now. They have a message on the side of the building not to leave valuables in your car. It would be great if they'd install a camera but IDK. Their food is great and I cannot rationalize a 1 star review for something which is not directly their fault, especially when I still frequent...
Read moreThis was our first visit to Lloyd's. We arrived at the start of Happy Hour and got seats at the bar. Right off we liked the retro feel of the place, and with the likes of Buck Owens and Hank Williams playing over the sound system, it made a great first impression. The bar area filled up quickly. We were a good bit older than most other folks in the place but didn't feel "out of place" at all.
The bartenders were not only very nice, but also skilled mixologists. It was fun watching them handle all the Happy Hour cocktail orders. They were attentive throughout our stay, checking in on us often. It was great to see that they serve a number of vintage beers, some of which we hadn't seen or heard about in years. We enjoyed the fried mozzarella appetizer before ordering dinner.
I ordered the double cheeseburger with bacon and my wife ordered the Tuesday prime rib special. Everything between the buns of my cheeseburger was outstanding. The beef was perfectly seasoned and the lettuce, tomato & onions fresh. My only disappointment was the bun itself. Unfortunately it was more like a day old Wonderbread hamburger bun. But overall I enjoyed the burger a lot. My wife's portion of prime rib was quite generous. She had wanted it rare but they explained that the prime rib is prepared ahead of time so they can't take special orders, however, they did kindly look for the rarest slice available for her. She said overall it was good but was only barely warm and she felt the crust of the meat could have been seasoned more. The side of mashed potatoes was unremarkable but the salad was excellent.
Overall we enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back to further explore the menu. And although Lloyd's seems to gear their business towards the younger hipster crowd, the vintage nature of the place definitely appeals to us...
