Ruby Chow's is a jewel worth visiting. Offering a fusion style Asian cuisine in smaller plates, there's definitely something special about this restaurant. First heard about Ruby Chow's back in late March, but never had the chance to visit with COVID-19 looming over everything. It is safe to say that they have taken measures to provide a fantastic dining experience, while keeping safety procedures in place.
First off is parking. You can do street parking across the street from them using the Park Mobile App. There are signs posted for the Zone to select once you've downloaded the app. Very easy to use. If there is no space, then it's only a short drive further to Ponce City Market and a 5 minute walk to the restaurant. Plenty of options in between if you're looking for something to do until it's time to eat.
Reservation is recommended and usually plenty of times to choose from. Was not crowded when I went on a 5:30 evening dinner reservation.
Safety procedures. Expect to wear a mask from the time you come into the restaurant, until you sit down and food comes out to eat. Reception provides a small plastic bag to keep your mask in while you dine. Everyone was wearing masks and gloves when I entered. They also do thorough cleaning in between people coming in. Space is limited inside for social distancing. Bar side dining is also an option.
Food was fantastic. Everything is on the smaller side portions. You could share some bites out of each dish, but it is better to be prepared and know what you'll be ordering ahead of time. Servers give great recommendations as well, if you're not too sure about what dishes to try.
Shoyu Tomago - I knew this would be the first dish I ordered, based on the great reviews others have left. While it was good, it left me feeling a little underwhelmed. Rice was crispy and the egg was nicely cooked on top. The sauce gave the rice a nice zesty flavor, went well with the egg. Definitely recommend to others to try.
Szechuan Green Beans - A nice simple appetizer while waiting for other dishes. Glazed very nicely with sesame seeds. This is a dish you can share between two or three people.
Soft-Shell BLT Bun - This comes with two buns to share or to have all to yourself. Skeptical at first when it came to the bacon with soft-shell crab, but it turned out better than expected. The bun was nice and fluffy. Give these a try or any of the other bun dishes.
Roti Canai - This was the wife's favorite. Bread and curry was prepared very well. The curry has pieces of chicken. Tasted great when dipped or even with a side of white rice. Wish they gave a little more curry. Could be a shareable dish between two people, something to try together.
Shumai (Shrimp & Pork) - I hardly ever order shumai when I go out to eat at restaurants, but this was by far one of the better ones I've had. Perfect bite size pieces. Just the right amount of shrimp and pork with each bite. It comes with five pieces, easy to share or to have to yourself. Definitely recommend this one to try. 🌟
Pork Kimchi Rice - Personal favorite of mine. I kept looking at this dish while glancing at the menu. It sounded intriguing, I have a habit of leaning towards Korean cuisine whenever I go out. The egg, rice, sliced pork belly and Kimchi went so well together. Not spicy, but there's a nice kick in flavor when you mix everything together. This is definitely a dish that could be shared, but I could have finished it on my own as well. Must try. 🌟
Pandan Cheesecake with Passion Fruit Sauce - This beautiful dessert was recommended by the waitress as well as the owner. Once and awhile, they like to do special dishes. I wholeheartedly believe this should be a permanent item on the menu. Could be done in different variations, such as lychee or mango sauce. The cheesecake was light and fluffy, good flavor amount of pandan. If you have a chance to ever try this dessert, you won't be disappointed. 🌟
Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice dinner spot. Service was immaculate and always...

ORIGINAL: As a regular patron of Ruby Chow’s, I typically have nothing but great things to say about the restaurant from the service to the food to the environment. However, my most recent experience with the manager Renee on 8/5 left a bad taste in my mouth, hence the 3 stars. Both the food we ate and the service we received from our waitress were great.
I made an online reservation for 2 to celebrate my husband’s birthday. When we arrived, we came in with our barely 2-month old in her car seat, and I gave the name to our reservation and said it was for a party of 2. As the hostess was looking up our reservation, Renee who was standing beside her, pointed at my daughter in her car seat with a puzzled look on her face to which I told her, she’ll remain in her car seat thinking that she was wondering if we needed a high chair for her. She then very rudely and sharply, with a very sour attitude, said that they’d need to find us a different table because the table we had can only seat 2, which I had no issues with and apologized for any inconvenience (which she didn’t respond to or acknowledge me saying since it seemed that she was pretty annoyed by the situation).
Upon getting seated by the hostess, I asked to speak to the manager. To my surprise, Renee came over, saying she was the manager (oh great!). I explained how I didn’t appreciate her response to the situation as it was clearly a misunderstanding and could have been dealt with better. As I spoke, she had a very disingenuous smirk on her face and responded with a very empty apology saying, “I didn’t mean anything by it” before quickly walking away.
As new parents, we were looking forward to having an enjoyable birthday dinner as it was one of the first times going out after welcoming our daughter into the world. However, we didn’t get that because of Renee. Instead, we were met with hostility from the very beginning due to a minor misunderstanding on reserving a table for 2 vs 3 because we came in with our newborn. The situation could have been resolved with consideration and understanding but instead my husband and I were met with rudeness and attitude. Our interaction with Renee was less than pleasant and put a damper on our experience with Ruby Chow’s, which prior to this experience, was...
Read moreMy favorite in Atlanta! You just can’t get any of their food anywhere else in the world! The chef really put thoughts into the menu and the food, ever dish we had was beautifully crafted.
We started with the tofu steam buns, salad, and Ciao e Pepe. I did not have high hope for the steam buns but the bread was hot and fluffy, and the tofu was flavorful. The sauce was unique and full of flavor and complemented with the texture of the tofu. Even if you don’t like tofu, I think you’d like this dish. The salad dressing was a pleasant surprise, a bit sweet and gingery but not overwhelming. Ciao e Pepe had very good noodles, tasted like Chinese hand pulled noodles which had a distinctly different texture than pasta, went very well with the creamy sauce. I personally would like a bit more of the Szechuan flavor, but understood the chef toned it down a bit for most customers.
We then got wonton, house pickles, eggplant dip, and basil chicken. Save your wonton sauce for you rice!!! I just couldn’t have enough of the wonton!!! House picked is not your average pickles either, it had quite a bit of variety and it’s sweeter. I know I’m biased since that’s how my hometown pickles are made, but don’t skip that appetizer because it will impress you!
Eggplant dip is a must, it goes well with the bread and even rice. Their herb is more flavorful than most herb I’ve had, which made me even think that they have their own herb garden. I actually didn’t not expect the Basil chicken to be that memorable, but I was pleasantly wrong! The chicken was juicy and crispy, tasted almost like it was lightly fried unbreaded, then sautéed with onions and basil. They did some magic to make the basil flavor stick on the chicken, every bite of the chicken was an experience.
If you like rice, don’t skip their rice. It’s fluffed to the right amount and most of their dish are great rice complements.
My fav in Atlanta! Will bring friends and families over when I’m in...
