Honestly, Taste of Greece is so close to being a fantastic place to dine, yet holds itself back from achieving this for reasons I will never know. This is probably the most well-deserved 3-star review I will ever write, but with an asterisk that says "with just a tad bit more effort, this place is 5 stars without question."
The interior is bland, and it did not echo the Greek culture even slightly. The two TVs they had were on wrestling and a Spanish channel. Our server was not rude at all, but also never smiled or interacted with us in any way other than the basic obligations "what drink/what food/here is your food/here is your check".
The food was decent. Half our table ordered from the breakfast menu (which is available all day), half ordered Greek cuisine. We were all satisfied, but not one of the five of us were wowed by our food. I ordered the "Best Gyro in Town," which was good. The fries were absolutely amazing though!
Overall, this restaurant checks the boxes and was decent. I would absolutely love to see this place thrive with a pretty minimal extra effort in decor, personality, and homage to its namesake. Being in such close proximity to the Fox Theater, I can easily see this little restaurant taking off...
Read moreWent here on a whim after getting some coffee nearby; I love a good gyro and what I walked into was much more than just that. Right after walking in the door is opened for me and I'm greeted by the hostess who let's me choose whereever I'd like to sit which is already cool. Then I sit down am given a concise menu of greek dishes and choose to go for a gyro to gauge how good the rest of the food is. Right after ordering I was given a delicious cup of soup complimentary which was absolutely excellent. About 2 minutes later and hastily finishing the soup I was given a loaf of freshly baked bread topped with olive oil and crumbled cheese. This was also complimentary and just as delcious as the soup. About 6 or 7 mins after ordering I got my meal as well which was also served with a side of green beans and potatos (with an extra cup of tzatiki sauce).
Not only were the gyro and side dishes delish but the service was absolutely amazing. It was like I was walking into the kitchen and my family was serving me for a dinner party.
Honestly can not reccommend this place enough, I didn't have much time during my lunch break and I am so glad I chose to come here. I will be telling all my coworkers about this, 7/5 I'm an...
Read moreI want to make a "taste of grease" pun, but it would be neither funny nor applicable. I got the skordalia gyro, which was delicious and patently NOT greasy. It was packed with meat and peppers, so much so that I was able to make two meals out of it. The pita was so soft and fluffy that, mid-meal, I climbed inside the gyro and took one of the best naps of my life. I'll take that pillowy bread over a Casper mattress any day.
The only area for improvement is possibly having a snappier restaurant name. Something with more pizzaz. I'm in a generous mood, so I won't deduct a star for this, but if the owners are ever thinking about a name change, I brainstormed a few. I have provided them here, free of charge:
Greece Lightning - the décor could be themed around Greek mythology, focusing on Zeus and his thunderbolt. Think Zeu(p)s and Zalads.
Give Greece A Chance - all the napkins would have John Lennon's face on them.
Greece's Pieces - this would actually be a Greek bakery attached to the restaurant, whose signature dessert would be baklava with Reese's Pieces.
10/10 will visit Taste of Greece again, regardless...
