White House Subs — Restaurant in Atlantic City

I have never experienced the kind of bad customer service I experienced today 6/16/2025 at this place.This was my first and last time ever going there. After finding this place on social media I thought it would be a great place to go to and sit in and try their food, which I must admit looked delicious. But I would have never thought I’d encounter such a bad vibe/interaction with the staff/waitress. Me and my cousin walked in the dining area and noticed a table by the entrance door so we decided to wait on a waitress to wipe the table off. It was only a few plates on the table that was unused so we stood there thinking it would only take a few minutes. Next thing an older woman/waitress was behind the counter and asked if we needed help. I replied “Yes we would like to dine in but we was just waiting on a waitress to come remove the plates and wipe off the table”. She then replied “ The waitress will be out but ya’ll should go outside until ya’ll are called back in.” So my cousin replied “ we don’t mind sitting since there was only a few clean plates that needed to be removed and the table wiped.” Then the waitress replied “ Well no ya’ll can stand outside until someone call ya’ll back in.” But as people say, it’s not always what you say but it’s how you say it. She was very rude and nasty. Came off kind of racist unnecessary and unprofessional. Never got the chance to try the food but I’d just assume it’s just as NASTY as that woman/waitress attitude. We were in Key West for 5 days and tried many different restaurants. This was by far the best restaurant we visited. I'm so glad we chose this place for our last stop. As soon as we walked in the the owner quickly greeted us. He was very friendly and professional. Plenty of options of subs to choose from. The names of the subs were cool and very detailed. "The Karen" was an option. I had a concern with how thick the chicken may be on my sandwich. I asked the owner about the meat and he quickly and kindly offered to cut my chicken thinner for my sub. Everything on mine and my husband's subs were cut and prepped fresh. Everything on our subs were perfect and delicious. The sides were good too. We even tried crab chips also good and recommend to try with the pasta salad and coleslaw. It was very clean and smelled really good in the restaurant. As soon as we got done eating and paid, the owner sanitized the area we ate at. All around wonderful service in a clean environment.There was no fishy smell which was a plus after walking around Mallory Square. Priced very well and we loved how our subs were cut in half. It was prepped to eat one side dining in and the other side was already wrapped neatly and tight to take with you if you were not able to finish it all. I visited the White House Sub Shop with my daughter, as I often do when I'm in the city. On November 2, we both ordered dry Italian subs. The young guy who prepared our subs had a beard and a peculiar, big smile when he handed them to us, but we didn’t think much of it at the time.

After leaving, my daughter ate half of her sub in the car and within 15 minutes, she complained of stomach pain. We inspected the meat, lettuce, and onions, but everything seemed fine. Later, while cooking dinner, I ate my sub as well. I felt fine beforehand, but within 30 minutes, I experienced severe cramps, cold sweats, and then diarrhea throughout the night. The situation reminded me of taking a laxative, even though I hadn’t.

Afterward, my daughter discarded the rest of her sub, and we both agreed we would never return to that shop—nor would our family. Everything that came out had a smell reminiscent of the subs. It was alarming and led me to believe that either something was off with the ingredients or something had been added to the subs.

If you ever feel uneasy about the person prepping your food, trust your instincts. I certainly wish I had. This experience was unsettling, and we will not...
