When I heard a former employee from Fricano’s, a famous and legendary sandwich shop that closed during the pandemic, had a spot nearby, I had to go check it out. My partner LOVED Fricano’s and their whole vibe lives here. Big sandwiches with flavorful combos. The significant other chose a pizza melt sandwich on sourdough and they were moaning in satisfaction during the whole meal. “That scratched a 4-year itch!” They said. It seems Fricano’s lives on. I, on the other hand, initially put an order for a sandwich but saw Armando’s had tacos and other Mexican fare. Not gonna lie, I did not have high expectations. Allow me to say I was wrong. I ordered a beef fajita burrito with extra beef and a taco al pastor. Although traditional al pastor requires the trompo, this was like that. However, the seasoning, flavor, and mix were perfect. It was the best pastor of its type I’ve had in a long time. Truly a surprise. The burrito was super packed and delicious! The beef was perfectly seasoned and the combination of beans, and rice made every bite a delight. Some people say there are no good burritos east of New Mexico and north of the RGV. This one could prove them wrong. Important tip: DO NOT SLEEP ON THE GREEN SALSA. I made the amateur mistake of misjudging it. It looked like the green “Doña” salsa (that is more like a mayo) every taqueria has over here. A good salsa makes or breaks a place and this one left me craving more. It is bright, has the perfect spice level, and perfect texture. Next time I’ll ask two of each. I will likely fall in love with the other salsas too. So, come grab a bite. Armando’s is doing their own thing, honoring Fricano’s while also crafting their own flavors that will keep me coming back in the...
Read moreI usually never post reviews but I definitely should have posted long before today, because Armando's Kitchen is always my go to spot when I forget (or don’t feel like bringing) lunch to work on my in-office days. Everything that I’ve ever had has been so delicious. They never fail. My typical go-to is usually the chicken torta, chicken enchilada plate, or bacon, egg, and cheese taco. Their pancakes are also pretty good. I’m usually a creature of habit but sometimes I decide to venture out and try other options. Give them a try if you’re looking for affordable meal options near West Campus. You won’t be disappointed. My only advice is come before the noon rush. There may be a bit of a wait otherwise. They move quite fast even during the rush hour. I’ve Included a picture of the chicken torta. It’s pretty big and just one half will fill you up and have...
Read moreNever would've expected to find food like this tucked away inside a gas station. It seems the construction workers have figured out this place, though, as I saw them frequenting the spot. It's got good, fresh, made to order meals that come in filling portions. The seats and tables were clean, and even the bathroom was exceptionally nice. It's very good to stop by if you need a meal for the road or if you're busy and want to quickly eat something that's good in nutritional value...
