Quantity over quality at this place! I had been wanting to try this place out for a while. This is another generic contender in the Subway of the over-sized burrito market which includes national competitors Qdoba and Chipotle. While Qdoba and Chipotle are similar in terms of food and business model, Freebirds has more of a casual, laid back, hipster vibe.
The positive point I have about Freebirds is that they offer way more selection and four different sizes of burritos from large to loaf-sized. However, everything else is just plain bad. The tortillas are small, and much look suspiciously similar to the store-bought rough-and-tough kind. The meat looked good, but my choice of meat - the dark chicken - tasted a lot like unseasoned chicken thighs. The rice was starchy and mushy. The entire thing was bland, despite the feeding trough of foodstuffs I put in there. I used the recommended unwind-the-foil-as-you-eat method, and that was pretty much mandatory because the smaller tortillas they use do not close up, so you depend on the tin foil to hold it together.
The final nail in the coffin for me was that they charge for sour cream, and it isn't a small fee. Sour cream costs 89 taxable cents at Freebirds. Head on over to your local H-E-B and buy two cups of sour cream for 89 untaxable cents and you can dip your entire burrito in it and still have some left over. Sour cream is a cheap commodity. If I would have known about the expensive upcharge I would have never spent my dime here in the first place! It is way more expensive than the competition and lacks the flavor of the typical nationwide offerings.
In the end, I counted my losses and threw half of it out because the bland flavor and especially the texture of the rice was making me...
Read moreSo I order online specifically so I don't have to spend time in the restaurant which is why I show up after the time I'm told my older would be ready. In this case I ordered on their app and received an email saying the order would be ready at 7:04 PM I arrive at 7:08 PM to see 2 other people waiting for their to go orders. Ten minutes later one of the guys waiting goes up and tells them to cancel his order and leaves. In those 10 minutes 6 people walked in placed their orders paid and were leaving while those of us who placed our orders and paid ahead of time were left waiting. Now this happened because they had 1 new employee making all the to go orders while they had 3 employees waiting around for customers to walk in and order. When I initially walked in there weren't any walk in customers. They arrived after I did yet they had their food made before those of us who had ordered early had our food made. Eventually I left after leaving my info so I would be refunded. I know nobody will read this or care since it's a fast food place but if you do just don't go to this location. Jamie was the manager in charge when all this happened. I don't know if their process is a corporate directive or the on site managers but either way it's completely stupid. If you have paying customers standing there you don't let new customers come in and get serviced before those who...
Read moreWould be 5-stars, but something really odd happened while we were there. Half way through our meal a black-haired female walked out of what looked like an office door or a door that lead back to the kitchen. The door was located in the back corner of the restaurant, down the hall past the counter. There is no delicate way to put this... She looked like a stripper. I mean, literally. Her ass was hanging out of the bottom of her shorts, she had a very low cut top on and was wearing high heels. To call it out of place would be an understatement. My girlfriend saw her first and immediately asked in a shocked manner, "Does she work here?!" This girl walked out to the dining room and up to another female employee that was filling up the ice and gave her a very long hug. Again, extremely suggestive and out of place. There was a table of a mom and son behind us and the mom told her kid not to stare. After the hug, she turned and walked back down the hall and went back through the door. On the ride home, I caught hell, in joking way, for "checking her out." I wasn't, but regardless it would have been impossible for anyone not be taken aback by the clothing choices and behavior exhibited. I keep saying it, but it was just super out of place and very distracting, not in any ways in which serves our restaurant well or casts your establishment in a...
