I originally posted this on Austentico review, but i was informed the bar is separate from the food truck. This happened Wednesday night.?
The male bartender with a beard who worked the night of 18 Sept 2024 should be fired. He was crude, cruel, cold, callous, unfriendly, unprofessional, etc. I was so excited to try Austhentico. I even walked about 12 blocks to have dinner there. When I walked in, I waited to be seated. The bartender did not welcome me. He said in a snotty rude voice “What do you want? May I help you with something,” while glaring at me with menacing dismissive eyes. And I said “it’s just myself.” He replied rudely and turned his back to me and said “oh okay.” And I replied “well do I just sit anywhere.” Turning his back again and in a hostile voice he replied “find a space at the bar somewhere.” So I sat at the end of the bar near the door. He did not bring me water which is customary or hand me a menu. Several minutes later he approached me coldly and said in an outrageously rude tone “have you decided what you want yet.” And I told him “I want to eat, you never gave me a menu.” He grabbed a foldable thing that had the menu on it, aggressively placed it in front of me, and said in a hostile voice (as if he wanted me gone) “use the qr code or go out to the truck to order.” He walked a way again and did not even offer to get me a drink. I felt so insulted, unwelcomed, and belittled that I left. Never in my life have I ever been treated so poorly anywhere (and I taught middle school, lol). Fire...
Read moreThe only thing good about this place was the variety of Belgian Beer, which is what they're known for. They had 2 of our favorites, 1 of which is incredibly hard to find in Austin, La Trappe. I do appreciate the beers in the proper glass. The front patio gives nice European vibes. However, the service is horrible. I wish I had gotten her name, tall thin woman, medium length blonde hair. Very rude and short with our group, the birthday boy with us had questions and she wasn't happy to help. She told him to stop talking in the middle of their conversation. Then when we went to close our tab the bill was $135 for 4 beers. Four beers, by the glass. Now some of the beers are pricier than others since they're imported but we were aware of that as the prices are listed on the chalk board behind the bar. We also don't mind paying good money for quality beer. We questioned the tab and the person behind the bar investigated and said the tall thin woman, who was short with us earlier, charged us for the two large bottles of some vintage or specialty bottle, which is not what we ordered nor what she served. She eventually fixed the tab but it was a very sketchy 'mistake' and the entire experience was memorable in a terrible way. We will not be back and are disappointed since we went in very excited to try it out. I don't...
Read moreWell, something happened to me for a first time. A couple of months ago, it seems that I accidentally rated Mort Subite; didn't even review the place, and gave it a miserable rating. I don't know how I managed to click exactly the wrong thing at the right time, but that seems to explain that unreviewed rating. This review will correct the mis-impression; Mort Subite has (and to my view has long) merited a rating of 4 stars. Wide range of beers; knowledgeable staff and owners; pleasant surroundings; interesting people in the bar; and (importantly) you can carry on a good conversation without talking over the din. The pricing seems to be a little higher than other places (I'm no comparison shopper) but the beer is head and shoulders above most. My one question has been availability of any form of food at certain times , but I think that is being addressed. So go there, have a splendid time with friends, and...
