Iām truly so disappointed in this restaurant, this has been a favorite for me since Ive been in Austin, but my last experience has me so shocked. Usually when I go, Iām with my husband and Iām not sure if thatās the reason why I was treated well vs. this current time them seeing two black girls in their establishment but a long story short, my friend and I had a reservation. We were seated outside, which was fine, while we were having our drinks bees kept landing on us, our drinks and our food. We asked our server if we could move inside she said yes that would be perfectly fine. To help her out my friend and I picked up some of our plates and took them with us. Once We got inside we stood in line to tell the host that we just needed a new table but there were a few people in front of us. While my friend continued to wait I placed two plates on an empty table right by where we standing ( MY I ADD the restaurant was empty and the plates where heavy). Once we got up to the hostess I explained the situation.. and for some reason she called the manager? As if we were lying about why we had plates in our hands and wanted to move inside (in front of the WHOLE restaurant). The manager came and proceeded to question us on where our server was, why we wanted to move etc. as if we stole the food or something. Still not being offered another table I sat by our plates while my friend attempted to explain the situation. As I am sitting a waitress comes over snatches some tableware from where I was and said ā Yeah they just came in and sat themselves without askingā. The manager continued to belittle us in front of the restaurant as if we were lying or stealing food all because we wanted to move inside. I continued to suggest that he go and simply ask our waitress about situation since it was so hard to believe what we were saying. I started to realize that as the only two black girl in this establishment they were making it openly known they did not want us there. I asked for a to go plate which I never received and still was never offered a table or resolution because TWO BLACK GILRS WANTED TO SIT INSIDE. My friend was also still given a bill which she paid mind you we had taken one bite out of a taco and sipped on a drink. The rest of our food was not touched. We were not offered to go plate. I had just had surgery and wanted a good meal. This was my friends first time here as well. The sad part is I use to always recommend this restaurant. But the treatment I have notice when I am with my husband vs this time is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere were a few bumps in our meal, nothing major (had to choose alternatives for a few menu/bar itemsā the burnt ends are apparently really popular!, server had to be reminded for lemons, like I saidā minimal), but our server Yit (Iām so sorry if Iāve misspelled this) was kind and made good recommendations. We were all yapping about business and enjoying our meal, so I think he was trying to balance giving us space while being weeded, which I respect. Everything I ate was delicious. Parking was absolutely highway robbery chargesā 30 bucks for the first hour and then 10 an hour after that. I didnāt even pay that in Vegas. Anyway.
Ultimately, what took this from an average 4 star experience was who I assume was the manager, Sergio. I mentioned on the way out it was disappointing they were out of things, and itād be cool if they validated my parking. Iām going to be honestā i didnāt want to have to reach out to my IT team and go through the arduous process of signing up for another login in order to expense this so I was shooting my shotā and Sergio apologized and took care of it for me.
I wouldnāt have been upset if he didnāt, and the experience would have left a good impression on me either way. I wasnāt going to write a bad reviewā but I also wasnāt going to write a 4 star review, either. I was just going to grumble and pay for parking and try to remember to save the receipt and go to bed and go back to work tomorrow.
But the staff here elevated the experience from good to memorable, and for that I think the least I can do is write them a good review and recommend them to others, so thanks for making our night, Yit and Sergio!
Jw Marriott you should still be ashamed of those...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter returning to Austin after a decade-long hiatus, I was very discerning in choosing a wonderful place to have my final breakfast of 2023.
It was a tie between Corner Restaurant and one other joint to win our breakfast decision, and boy, am I glad we went here.
Parking garages galore nearby meant for a simple, no-fuss walk in the absolutely perfect weather. We'd made a reservation for 11:15, though I don't feel we needed it. We were warmly greeted and sat at a neatly set table.
Maha was our server and she knocked it out of the park, anticipating our needs and even giving me a hookup on syrup to add to my iced latte, which was very good.
We ordered avocado toast, which ended up being just okay. Be sure to add some salt and pepper to it; that's as good as it will get. Wish the bread it was on was toasted a tad more, but I'll let it slide because...
Our mains were impeccable. Literally every component was perfectly executed. And, look, I won't lie to you. This hotel restaurant isn't reinventing the wheel or blowing your mind. But I can guarantee that whatever you order will be the best it can be.
My wagyu brunch burger was cooked perfectly, from the bacon, to the meat, to the egg, to the toasted bun.
Their breakfast potatoes are perfectly seasoned with some dill that adds some well-needed brightness.
The eggs Benedict was nigh-on-perfect - the cook on the eggs could have been a little runnier to achieve that perfect burst but I will let these small hiccups slide considering Mahaās impeccable service, the 5-Star cleanliness, and the spectacular atmosphere.
An incredibly solid choice and all things considered,...
