Potbelly — Restaurant in Austin

First I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. It was dirty and this was about 10 minutes after they opened. My husband said the men's bathroom was disgusting so he refused to use it. Then I took a bite of my sandwich and noticed a small hair in the bread. Like an eyelash hair. So I couldn't eat it. From the bite and what my husband said about his sandwich, it's not what we're used to. The bread was not toasted enough, his lettuce seemed old, and there didn't seem to be enough meat. We eat at our local Potbelly regularly. I grew up eating Potbelly in Chicago and have been to many all over. It was the worst I have been to so I'd like to warn others. I didn't want to complain and be "that" person so I simply didn't eat anything but the chips. I can't even trust the fountain drink I got. However, they were quick, as we were the only customers there when we went and the place is very spacious. So I'm giving 2 stars for effort. But the employees weren't friendly, they weren't mean either and the cleanliness and food really need help. This is why I write the review in hopes they improve in the future and as a warning.... this reminds me to write a review for the one I go to often. Normally I wouldn’t have any issues with this location, everyone is always welcoming and helpful. Today seemed to be a different case, the employee with a bit of green dye in their hair wasn’t too pleasant. When I went to scan my points I accidentally did the wrong scanner and went to the next station and scanned again. Maybe a mix up happened who knows but the conversation that occurred was very counter productive. They told me I scanned the wrong one for points I said yes but I scanned this new one and they interrupted me and stated I scanned the wrong one once again. I tried to clarify I scanned again at the register we were at but they seem to not understand what I was saying and said I needed to scan again. The over all interaction was very unpleasant so I gave up, coming from a job that deals with customer service I understand it’s stressful but I was the only one in line and quite frankly they were just rude. I hope on a better day they can be a bit more positive and commutative...

If you want a quick, cheap sandwich near campus, Potbelly is hard to beat. And it's certainly better than Subway. If you get the Hooked app, you can often get a free soda ($1.99) or chips ($1.50) with your lunchtime sandwich purchase. That's probably the cheapest meal you can get on The Drag! Plus there's often live music being played throughout the day.

I almost always get an original Wreck (salami, roast beef, turkey, ham, and swiss cheese) on wheat bread and leave quite satisfied. The Mediterranean and Pizza Sandwich are also quite good.

On a separate note, Potbelly is one of my favorite places to have food catered from for campus events. They have a simple online ordering system that makes everything dead easy. Just mention in the comments that you're from UT and bring your tax exempt form. The cashiers are quite quick at handling all that stuff. I would discourage ordering any catered drinks however, since they're incredibly over-priced. You should just pick something up at 7-11 or...
