Arrived at the restaurant at 11:30, a half hour before it opens and jumped in the started line at about 3rd or 4th. I wish I had taken that time to read the reviews during that waiting time.
By the time they finally opened, the line was probably 50+ people. You would think they would seat people by those first in line but instead they opened the doors wide and let everyone bum rush the place fighting for a seat. I grabbed a seat but then I just sat there, and sat there, and sat there some more. 4 tables close around me, one in front, two behind, and one to my left. All were served waters, menus, and food orders were taken. In a 30 minutes span, I could never once even get the waitress to look my direction, I started to look like a fool, waiving my arms and calling out "ma'am" to no avail as the waitress (short Asian woman who served first shift on the balcony near the pool on 9-13-19) ignored me.
I was served a water by a woman going around handing out waters to all tables and I asked for a menu, which she grabbed from my waitress, WHO STILL NEVER TURNED AROUND TO LOOK AT ME. 30 minutes later, I had a warm cup of water and not so much as a glance from my server. I finally walked out but before I did, I did a walk through the restaurant EVERY. SINGLE. TABLE. had waters, bar drinks, and half the tables had food. Even though I was there before all of them.
I have no idea why such a wonderful hotel such as the Fairmont would continue to allow a restaurant with such horrible customer service ruin their name. I didn't even take the time to talk to the manager because I only had 30 minutes left on my lunch break to go find food and based on the reviews I read while waiting, I wasn't looking forward to speaking with a nasty manager...
Read moreA place with so much potential for fun in the holiday season that is a downer because of how it's operated . We were late to our reservation by an hour since we were delayed driving from another city . They were right to let go of our reservation which we understood and agreed. But the person at the front desk said "they were so busy and completely booked" and that we could hang out until she tries to find a table. We went in to see that the place was more than 70% empty and made us chuckle at how she made it sound like they were busy . But we did not bother her for a long time sicne we were late to our reservation, we just hung out near the bar area and got a couple of drinks to while away time. More than 40 mins went by and when I asked her why we could not get a table when so many were Empty. She said they were all 'reserved' . I challenged her that when we didn't arrive at our reservation time she was right to let go of our reservation. She said usually it's 15 mins but she waited for 30 mins for us and then let it go. I said if that applied to all of the empty tables that I have been witnessing for the last hour we would have had a table by now. She didn't seem to understand basic math on how to manage table reservations or guests and kept turning away guests that were arriving even though there were 70% of empty tables. The decor was so beautiful, music was good, but the waiters and the front desk person seem baffled and overwhelmed and I could not understand how the owners were making any profits with this business. We ended up walking out after an hour watching empty tables and serving ourselves...
Read more2 stars instead of 1 because the waiter and hostess were nice. So I'm not going to go into too much detail but if you actually like and know what Tiki drinks are supposed to be and taste like, this is not the place for you. Went to order a Navy Grog and a Zombie. Waiter said he wasn't sure if they had the pre-batch for the Zombie (they didn't even though they had just opened about 40 mins ago). First red flag, should have just stopped there but I guess since I was having to pay $21 for parking I may as well give into my morbid curiosity. Got the "Navy Grog". Took a sip as it was put in front of me. Mouth full of room temp honey syrup. So this tells me the drink was built or the pre-batch was poured in the glass then ice just put on top. So I stirred the drink with the paper straw for about 35 seconds or so. Now it tasted like a slightly cooler honey Hall's cough drop. I feel sad for the Tiki Scene in Austin. Tiki Tatsuya is all that is really out here everything else is after thoughts or pre-batched horrible things, placeholderatx was another pre-batch thing. As far as the other drinks on their Tiki menu, it's bourbon type oddities. The coconut one may have been good but I was out after the "Navy Grog" which isn't even close to what an actual Navy Grog should be - Pussers Rum - Honey and allspice dram. A real Navy Grog is Lime, Grapefruit, demerara syrup, all Spice dram, and a blend of 3 different rums. Mint garnish with a rock candy Swizzle if you want to be fancy or even fancier and authentic an ice cone. Anyway unless you're staying at the hotel avoid this place and even if you are stay away from the...
