I have gone back multiple times now. The pork chop is still my #1 and has a special place in my heart. I’ve had most of the appetizers and all are really good. The golden beets, Harrisa Shrimp, and the crispy zucchini are all super tasty and well thought of. However, the cauliflower appetizer changed. They broke my heart😔. I liked first version better. Updated one is still good but I think they give you less and not as good. The roasted chicken is humble yet memorable and homey. I never thought I liked chickpeas so much. The chicken is tender and paired with white wine, I’m set. I was soooo disappointed with the Bavette Steak. It was tough and needed salt. Not doing that again.!When I’m trying to behave, I get the cauliflower pizza with sausage and that takes care of my pizza cravings. With wine of course! But don’t be fooled, it ain’t no substitute. It calms me down though. I have seen my daughter devour the basque cheesecake and Sticky Toffee Cake desserts multiple times and she keeps ordering them so they must be legit. Her favorites are the pizza and rigatoni. We love getting wine here too. Love how you can tailor quantities and they have great selections. Have sat at the bar multiple times and they run a tight shift. They have a huge bar and it’s neat and modern. Staff is really friendly! So glad Sixty Vines is in Austin now. It’s the reason why I make charred cauliflower. I always get this appetizer. It comes with pita and baba ghanoush. It’s delicious. We tried the Beef Rissoles meatball appetizer. It was like a dumpling without the wrap. I liked the strong ginger scallion flavor. The pork chop was thick and juicy. I loved the red pepper sauce paired with carrots. A little salty but that pork chop was cooked to perfection. The trout came with an extra lemony dill sauce. I love dill and enjoyed it but it’s strong. I wouldn’t squeeze extra lemon. It came with a green bean cabbage side that was tasty as well. Really good meal! The restaurant is cool and enticing. They have a big outside seating area. The bar is awesome! We’re coming back. I’ve had the burger at Dallas location and it was memorable. When I decide to cheat on diet I will come back for this burger....
Read moreGreat addition to N. Austin food scene. I booked a table for NYE where we live in Georgetown....but a few days ago Open Table emailed list of new restaurants. Most were not new, but 1st time I saw Sixty Vines so investigated. From pics on google/yelp it was clear this was a diverse menu with lots of small dishes which we prefer. So cancelled La Riv and booked Sixty Vines. It was mobbed when we arrived but only had 10-15 minute wait for our table.
Our server Desiree was a delight. I am foody/chefie for 60 years so asked a number of questions about ingredients/recipes; she responded by going to the manager/kitchen to get answers. One she was not sure so asked Eric the manager to meet me and we had a detailed conversation about the dishes, preparations etc. Sixty Vines corp management should feel proud and fortunate to have such personable and communicative staff as Desiree and Eric. Desiree also asked the kitchen to customize several of our dishes.....she went above and beyond.
The noise level was kind of high due to the large space, full of maybe 200 people all drinking, eating and having fun, no soft surfaces to absorb sound, and background music.....so in that sense not an intimate spot. But still fun to be there and lot's of activity. The interior design is contemporary, hip and interesting.
We had 5 dishes each one perfect, difficult to pull off on any menu let alone in such a big venue. Ingredients were so fresh obviously well sourced. The eclectic menu with pasta/pizza touch is Austin but fits together perfectly so many options for mixing/matching dishes. Caesar salad - just romaine and dressing....but dressing is the key and if you love anchovies like we do get it! Burrata - every component was top notch with wood charcoal grilled world class bread made in house as the foundation Roasted Cauliflower - masterpiece with eggplant puree that is to die for Broccolini - the topping was killer, ask for extra you wont be sorry Smashed taters - As good as it gets!!
One last point....value. For the quality, creativeness, serving size and service level the prices are VERY reasonable. Many similar restaurants (food genre) charge 25%-40% more for...
Read moreAbsolutely disappointing experience. My friend and I came in on a busy Saturday night and decided to have dinner at the bar. From the moment we sat down, we felt completely ignored—no greeting, no eye contact, just a quick water pour from a server who disappeared immediately. It took about 10 minutes before a bartender finally noticed us and took our order. Another bartender helped with wine and recommendations, which we appreciated, but that was the only positive part of the service.
Nobody checked on us throughout the meal. The mussels we ordered had a weird taste and barely any sauce, so we turned them back. To their credit, they quickly offered something else instead, which we appreciated. When the new dish arrived, the bartender asked if it tasted better. However, after that, we were completely neglected again. We had pizza but had to search for someone just to get a napkin. No one refilled our water or checked if we needed anything else.
When we were ready to leave, we had to find someone just to ask for the check. From the moment we requested it to the time we actually walked out, 30 minutes had passed. During that time, we were left sitting there, ignored, without even a glass of water. We also ordered desserts to go, and after paying, we still waited, only to realize they had forgotten them. When we asked again, a staff member rolled her eyes before finally going to the kitchen to grab them.
Despite all this, we still tipped 15%, but we truly hated the experience. The only saving grace is that the restaurant itself is beautiful, but the service made it...
