First off, I love Volstead, they have great shows and event. This is about the brunch only. A group of us wanted to go to a Drag Brunch and I had previously been to an amazing drag show here before and suggested Volstead because it was a brunch as well and I have never had the food here. I looked at the website and it clearly states "Brunch provided by our food truck, Clandestino". When we all got there, we noticed that the bar was not set up and the food truck was not open. We thought they were just behind, no big deal. When the bar opened we asked when the food truck will be open and the bar manager said that there are tacos and no truck. So I said, this is a drag brunch with no brunch? She said yes. We all did not eat breakfast because we wanted brunch!! So we settled for a mediocre Taco Deli taco and went elsewhere to eat after the show. The bar manager was the bartender and she was super sweet. But the one thing I that will disappoint me and keep myself and others from coming back is false advertising. I know that life happens, but If you are no longer having a "brunch", then update your website/social media accordingly so people that planned on coming for this can make other plans, its just common courtesy to your customers and hurts the credibility of the business.
Now, lets talk about the drag show. It was absolutely amazing! The queens were really late, but if you are privy to "drag time" then it shouldn't surprise you, and we were ok with it. We ate our tacos and had cocktails while waiting. We will absolutely come back for another show, but if you are looking for a Drag Brunch, I would say pick from one of at least 30 in Austin that will serve you an...
Read moreI went here last Friday and couldn't help but laugh at the difference between the patio and inside of the bar. Outside had a beer garden vibe and inside was a total reggaeton night club.
Outside was still playing music but it has big picnic tables and was definitely better for conversation, any time I went inside to use the restroom the patrons bumping and grinding to Daddy Yankee seemed to be profusely and enthusiastically sweating. It was packed with 90's kids letting loose.
On the restrooms, ladies, there is one stall inside the building, which is kept like a Dirty Sixth bathroom bar and everyone props the restroom door open to the dance floor so hopefully you're not shy. Otherwise be comfortable using the PortaPotty outside which has been baking in the sun all day. The choice is yours.
The drinks were decently priced and the selection was great. There are at least 3 bars (2 outside and 1 inside) so it won't take you too long to get a drink. They also sell cigarettes at the bar or come around outside offering if you're into carcinogens.
Overall great experience here, but a point off for the restroom situation. Hardly acceptable for the number of patrons Volstead...
Read moreIt was a weeknight and my friend's birthday, this was back in February. I walk into an open door and it seems like a quiet dive, my kind of place. bartender was handsome and reasonably attentive and the lighting was perfectly dim as if in a prohibition era speakeasy, which I'm sure is what they were going for. I walk around the place as I wait for my friend, admire the open floor and the nice seating arrangements and I find a wonderful organ of sorts. Oh that thing was so clue even though I couldn't get it to make a sound.
I enjoyed the place, everything but the music. The music that night was terrible, synthesized beats and a deep monotonous voice that would embarrass anyone calling themselves a rapper. We ventured outside to wander around their gravel yard and hope there was a table open. There was only one table and it was uncovered so we went on to the place next door. I wold go back but definitely not...
