I wouldve gave 4 stars but the workers seemed to have been too much wound up in other work duties at the time I was ready to order. I wanted to get to Land Of Kush for the last 2 years as a treat for myself for my solar return. .l made it this year to go during my niece's solar return instead. It was about 3:30pm we arrives from DC. We saw that the closing time was 9pm. Well, we entered and the setting was very nice and showed alot of righteous black love and black culture. Some of the displays could use a little more tidy up but nothing too serious. I loved that they have info for the things that are happening in the areas or things to know, right when you come in the door. I noticed that it was small inside as I thought from the video I came across of a review of The Land Of Kush showed it much bigger. Any who, I didnt see signs menu listings or labels of what deserts were diplayed with the prices of them. There were about 4 people waiting for food or placing orders ahead of us. I just so happened to scan around to find the food menu on the corner end where the register is sitting and grabbed one for my sister, niece and I to see what we would like to have to eat. The menu wasnt too well organized. But we have it figured out after awhile. . we were ready to order. At that time no one was in line. I was waiting for the cashier to come back to place my order. He informed me that cabbage was no longer available. It was ok because I wanted the crab cake wrap and jollof rice. He then informed me that there wasnt any rice left either. So I just ordered the crab cake wrap and a small Sorrell drink. I was going to pay with my card but realized that my xard was in my other wallet. I had cash but The Land Of Kush does not accept cash. So I had to give the money yo my sister and she just added on to my order and paid it all together. That sucked. My niece ordered just a smoothie and a desert and paid with her own card. I was going to order a desert but I had gotten turned off that a few things were not available. I didnt like to see the food line sitting out open in the manner that it did either. The workers were nice and quick. But I didnt feel too welcomed or I didnt have much of there attention. We too our food and headed back to DC. My wrapbturned out to be pretty good. The drink needed a little bit of something more and it wouldve been great. I wish I had another wrap. My sister said that her lemonade was too sweet. She added more water to balance it out to her liking. And her greens wasnt on point with the ginger that was put in it so she added her own seasoning and got it good. She liked the mac and cheese. And the cake cakes were ok. My niece enjoyed her drink and desert. We agreed that returning to give other items and atmosphere another try soon. So hopefully we will get a better feel and good bite the...
Read moreI was visiting Baltimore for the first time this past weekend. I’ve been vegetarian for 21+ years. On Saturday Afternoon May 1st, I visited this restaurant with every intention on having a great experience, and I did! The young woman who greeted us was warm and welcoming. I ordered the vegan crab cakes, the collard greens, and the sesame spinach. I also got the peanut punch. My favorite part of the meal I must say was the collards, spinach and the peanut punch. I haven’t had collards in such a long time because most people make it with smoked turkey or smoked pork. Definitely a treat. The peanut punch consisted of banana, peanut butter and almond milk. It was smooth, creamy, not to sweet, and delicious 🤤 . We enjoyed the food and service so much that we came back the next day Sunday May 2nd. Unfortunately the experience was a bit different. The cashier wasn’t rude, but she wasn’t nice either. Kind of 🥶 icy. Perhaps she was having a bad day, we all do at times. However the tall woman with the beautiful eyelashes who shared my food was rather pleasant. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t the same quality as the day before. I got the collards, sesame spinach and the lentil patties. The collards were great, however, the sesame spinach, maybe I got a batch with all the sesame seasoning/ sauce, but it was extremely salty. I also got the peanut punch again because of how much I enjoyed the one the day before. Needless to say, the punch wasn’t the same. I ordered a large too. I’m not sure if sugar was added to the punch, but with every sip, I tasted sugar crystals, a bit gritty. I also felt like it was overly sweet. Perhaps with the punch... a measured recipe with the order of what ingredients go first in the blender. Milk and sugar blended first and then the remaining ingredients. So I’d say, this place has a lot of potential, however, I think they should also focus on quality control, and consistency with their food and service. The next time I visit Baltimore, I may visit this place again. Can’t say I’d write them off because the potential is there and the collards...
Read moreAfter have poor prior service, and disappointing food experience in 2015 I was pretty much sworn OFF LOK I have been patronizing another vegan/vegetarian business in east Baltimore. My Wife decided to give them a try being a I believe a black owned business and in the community. I warned her of my previous experience, however she was adamant on me trying them out again. I gave them another shot to earn my patronage again. I called in my order (red flag) the gentleman answering stated "we don't typically take orders on the phone but go ahead" I usually wont even bother with a business that has that practice what if I am not tech savvy? anyway I placed my order drove the hour it would take get there. I arrived and to my surprise (sarcasm) they didn't have what I ordered. To say I was upset was an understatement more so with myself for thinking that LOK had bothered to change from my last experience. the coworker reminded the call taker of why we don't take orders on the phone. she did offered to replace my order (that's why they received 2 stars in that category) Rant what kind of customer service is that not to call back and inform a customer that a certain item isn't available before they arrived? next part I called my other spot over east and they had closed for the day time time I spent going to LOK I could have picked up my food and swung around for my Wife's meal. Onto my Wife meal it was way off the mark!! salty mushy, and sugar to drink period. I was raised on excellent vegan/vegetarian cooking without the culinary training these folks running a business may have had it seemed it was given what was left over from the previous hour a all around very poor experience, poor customer service, and poor customer value. I am big on customer service, price point, and overall experience LOK again and finally for me proved it has no intention to improve on any of those marks and just because its situated in the community, and maybe a black owned business doesn't mean that it automatically earns...
