The wife and I had a whale watching tour cancelled due to really heavy fog, so we decided to tool around Beat Harbor for the day, visiting shops and such. While eating lunch across the street, we noticed Dog and Pony, and decided to stop in for a beer. The bartender, Dan, was super friendly and helped my wife find a beer she liked. While enjoying my beer, I watched Dan make a drink for another customer, called the Sneaky Tiki. This drink was 95% alcohol, with juice added for coloring, so I had to try one. The combination of rums, juices, and amaretto took the boat drink to a whole new level! Seriously, try this drink! The music playing was very laid back (mostly DMB!!!) And a lot of the staff were singing along and seemed to be having a good time while they worked, adding to the great atmosphere. They have a PlayStation system and a selection of board games for patrons to enjoy, as well as a huge patio with a fun ring game. The place seemed pretty family friendly during the day, but I could imagine it having a more adult atmosphere at night. Dan told us the bar closes at midnight, but the have a window that serves late night takeout for bar crawling zombies. This was one of my favorite places we visited during our week in Maine, and the Sneaky Tiki was by far the best drink I had!...
Read moreOn our first night in Bar Harbor hubby & I ate at a nearby restaurant but I couldn't help but be intrigued by the music and camaraderie amongst the crowd at the Dog & Pony so hubby and I came back the next night for a late night dinner. Monday night football was well underway but we were able to find a booth and minutes later, Lynn, the bartender, came over and took our orders hubby - hubby went with the brisket sandwich and I got the sweet chili wings. Hubby's brisket was tender and flavorful and my wings were juicy and on the large side and the sweet chili was sheer perfection - sticky sweet with just enough heat, so meaty I couldn't finish them all so I took the rest to go. When Lynn dropped off our check she had a few moments so we chatted about the area and she gave us some wonderful tips, we thoroughly enjoyed her company and our meal and if time had allowed we would have stopped by again, definitely have it on my list for our visit next year. If you want to hang out and just chill and let your hair down this is the place for you, on the weekend they even had the patio bar open and the public parking lot is right...
Read moreEarly evening early in the season a lot of restaurants weren't open and others were full so we ended up here. Have to admit the outside looks uninspiring but we walked up and the attendant/ bartender / waiter (all one guy - that dude was a BEAST) quickly seated us at a nice booth, with all the normal COVID precautions implemented. The inside is just a large empty American bar/ restaurant type style with no particular views or style other than some large screen TVs. Super friendly guy brought out large local draft beers filled to the rim at a much more reasonable price than some of the other places. Food selection was good and affordable compared to other places. Order quickly filled and we enjoyed one of the daily specials, Lobster Roll (delicious and FULL of lobster at about 35% discount from waterfront places), and the very tasty pou-tots. I wouldn't roll in here for my special vacation fancy dinner of the week, but we were thrilled to have stumbled in to a local place with friendly staff, quick service, COVID good, and most importantly...
