I bought a custom cake for my son's 13th birthday. Firstly, when I went in, the woman was uninviting and had a very sturn, and irritated look on her face. Immediately, she told me she would not do the frosting color I wanted (she said that if she did, it wouldtaste bad). She then told me I could not have rainbow marble cake on the inside (which is a pretty easy thing to create with some food coloring in the batter). So, basically everything I wanted in a cake, I couldn't have. However, I'm not firmiliar with the custom bakeries in the area, as I just moved here, so I bought, what I would call "her version" of what I wanted. When it was checkout time, I felt that the cake was extremely over priced for such a simple cake. I just got a small round cake with frosting "paint splatter". I made the mistake of not walking out then. They also are not open on Sundays (which was when my son's party was), so I had to travel out to pick up the cake a day early. When I got the cake home, I noticed the imperfections. There were several bubbles in the cake frosting, mostly in the corners. It didn't seem to be properly smoothed. When the party came, I thought surely it would taste good, as it was sooo expensive. I was wrong. No one, and I mean NO ONE finished their cake. The cake was dry and gross. The filling had no flavor. It was, honestly, a complete disappointment! I felt like I let my son down on such an important birthday. I chose a good angle for the photo. I am going to choose somewhere...
Read moreFrankly the decorations of the cake were top notch and their customer service was delightful. Our 4yr old enjoyed the decorations, and we did as well. The issue we had...was flavor, or rather a lack thereof. The frosting was devoid of taste, almost could've called it colored Crisco. Not a huge deal, as we're not frosting lovers anyway. However, when one pays $75 for a cake, it is expected to have a dynamic flavor. The cake itself was almost as if they used no sugar. In fact, if I closed my eyes I couldn't tell the flavor (ours was chocolate). It's shameful when a Betty Crocker cake mix has more flavor and leaves a better desire for another bite.
The cake was moist and everything else about it was good, maybe even great. However, it was one of the worst cakes to eat we've ever had. We don't keep a "cake journal" but we might be willing to say it was the worst tasting cake we've ever had (cliche...agreed but it's how we felt). I'd give them higher stars, however a cake is supposed to be enjoyable to eat, not just cool to look at. It wasn't, and even the 4yr old didn't finish their piece cake...in fact none of the kids finished their slice of cake, so that's why we're leaving 2-stars. If you want a good eating cake, go to Costco, Safeway, Albertsons or somewhere else. If you want a well decorated cake and good customer service only, then this place...
Read moreMy husband and I were introduced to Cake It at a friend's birthday and we were so impressed we decided to use them for our wedding cake. We love that their cakes are not too sweet and the buttercream frosting is so buttery! They did not provide fresh decorations but were happy to put them on if provided. We thought our cake was beautiful and they did a great job based off just two photo ideas! The cake tasted AMAZING and we got so many compliments. There was only a small amount left over after our wedding and family ate it all within a couple days! I was also impressed with the service provided. We had our email's returned in a timely manner, we asked for a cake tasting prior to choosing a cake flavor and they gave us generous sample for a minimal cost, the price of the cake was very reasonable and we were even guided politely about which cake flavors would look good with our...
