Takeout Order: Underwhelming and a bit disappointed
** Let me preface by saying that the employees provided outstanding service and were polite and professional, so no complaints there.
Takeout experience (Bad). I placed my order 2 minutes after opening (11:02am) and their Toast Tab system quoted me a pickup time of 11:22am. Got there at 11:15am, a few minutes early, no big deal, I can wait.
Food isn't ready until 11:50ish. In the meantime while I was waiting, people who walked in 10-20 minutes after me we're getting their food served to them while I was still waiting for my takeout order placed 2 minutes after the store opened. How is this even possible?
If they told me to pick up at 11:50am that would have been fine. Instead I end up wasting my entire lunch break waiting for something that was supposed to be ready 30 minutes earlier.
Food Review/Quality I ordered almost $100 worth of food. No utensils were included and they never asked me if I needed them, and the condiments consisted of 3-4 packets each of "store brand" Lee Kum Lee soy sauce and chili oil packets. Not very premium if you ask me.....
All 3 orders of my XLB were cold and many of the dumplings were exploded and all of the soup leaked out, causing the other dumplings to become soft on the bottom and rip open when picked up. Additionally, they were for the most part flavorless and barely had any filling. I've had frozen store bought XLB that's better than the ones they make here.
-The shrimp wonton was okay until I tasted the sandy grit from the vein which was apparently not removed. Absolutely disgusting. You'd think that they could scrape out the vein for a 5-6 piece $8.00 wonton order. This is total amateur hour. Other premium dim sum places like DTF don't have this issue...... Theres nothing like the sandy grit of shrimp feces to ruin your meal....
None of the items in my order were hot or even warm. Everything was luke warm to cold at best. So this means that most of my order was sitting and getting cold while they finished up the last item(s)? I live 2 minutes down the street so there's no way it got cold on the drive home. Cold XLB is not good!!!!
Positives The pork chop fried rice was pretty good, and the tan tan noodles, as was the pork wonton, which is the only dumplings we ordered that had a decent amount of pork that you could taste.
Conclusion Way overrated in my opinion and they have a lot to Improve on. In all honesty I don't think that places like Din Tai Fung are that much better, but they have their ordering and takeout system pretty optimized, and they provide a much better takeout experience, and the food is slightly better, as are many of the hole in the wall dim sum places in Seattle and the Eastside. Was glad to give it a shot but this place is a pass for me given...

Family friendly: Yes Pet friendly: No Parking: Shared parking lot and it gets busy really quick.
FOOD:
Szechuan Spicy Xiao Long Bao $13: Sooo good. This is not super spicy which normally would annoy me but the just right amount of heat provides so much flavor to each little parcel. This is a pork base bao that goes really well with the heat.
Black Truffle & Chicken Xiao Long Bao $19: The reason why I wanted to come try the restaurant. Great truffle flavor BUT I dont think the chicken is the best choice as the truffle overwhelms the meat and all you taste is truffle. For me, I love truffle, but appreciate it more when its in a different form.
Pan-Fried Pie w/ Garlic Chives $9: I really love pan fried buns and was really disappointed when I saw the menu that all three meat filled buns were "coming soon." I will say the garlic chives was really good. They went heavy handed with white pepper which oddly made me really like this A LOT. Garlic chives is very pungent so you either like it or you dont.
Supreme Tan Tan Noodles $10: Heavy peanut flavor which is not what i'm use to for Tan Tan noodles. Great flavor, again just unexpected as I was thinking I was getting something spicy as per indicated on the menu.
Sweet Taro Xiao Long Bao $8 (not pictured): This was my least favorite item but it wasnt bad. Everyone else in our group really like it. To me it was just too much mushy and oddly tasted like butter.
RESTAURANT/INTERIOR: This is a very small tiny restaurant. The wait time was 80-100 minutes when we arrived at 1pm on a Saturday. I was glad I made reservations via Yelp! We arrived about 5 minutes early since it took us about a few laps trying to find parking but were seated exactly on time.
The restaurant is modern yet pretty. Everything had a marble look to it, white with gold accents. There were splashes of color here and there but overall very nice (tiny) restaurant.
STAFF: The team is super friendly and attentive. There are a couple of host/waiters that every minute would check the front while making rounds to make sure no one lingered at their table too long since they tend to have a long line. The team that wait on the tables are quick, thorough when it comes to make sure they repeat everything you ask for when they put the order in and when you pay the bill.
For those still concern with safety, the team wear mask, disposable gloves, and there is at no point any physical contact. They double wipe the table and the table is only set when a party is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOct 2024 This place was recommended to us as we hunted for a good place for soup dumplings, or xiao long bao (å°ē± å ). And I can definitely confirm that the soup dumplings here are phenomenally delicious š, like I was in Taiwan again. The service was also quick, friendly, and attentive.
This place is located in a shopping center with a free parking lot. It seems like the store recently expanded, because there is a clear difference in the floor tiling between where the other store would have been. Plus, it seems like they have two kitchens, on each side of the restaurant.
The lighting is slightly dim, though still bright. They have a small bar by the entrance with 3 high chairs. A bunch of four table booths, and some 2-4 people booth-chair tables.
When you enter, there is a tablet to the right, by the host stand, to enter the waitlist, with a stand next to it with instructions on how to do so. One thing to note is that parties of 8 or more should break their party into 2 groups, since they may not be able to accommodate such a large group.
If you want to place a to-go order, they also have a tablet for that. It is mounted on the wall directly across from the front door. I believe they use ToastTab for that.
They were not busy when we arrived and they seated us quickly. Though we did have time to enter ourselves onto the waitlist before someone came to seat us. We each got a small saucer of grated ginger, and they gave us a 64oz pitcher of water for the table. The pitcher had a rubber bottom, so we didn't have to worry about it slipping. The table has soy sauce and vinegar so you can mix your own dumpling sauce.
Our server was friendly and polite, and quick delivering our drinks and food. We had ordered multiple types of dumplings, and our server kindly pointed out which was which when delivering them.
The supreme pork dumplings were the best, very delicious with a good amount of meat and lots of soup. The chicken dumplings were also good, though less soup than the pork. The taro dessert dumplings were yummy, not too sweet with small taro chunks. The black sesame mochi buns were also delicious.
The bathrooms were in the very back, next to the loading dock/back door (follow the exit signs). There were men/women bathrooms with 3 stalls, including a handicap stall. They were clean and dry.
Overall, an excellent experience with scrumptious food. Would...
