Will NEVER go again!!! What a shame to have such an incredibly horrible experience at such a long time favorite restaurant. Of ALL the places in Bend to have lunch on my husband’s only day off each week and we chose Gregs Grill in the Old Mill. 1:15 pm we Walked into the bar & grabbed a free table. Ordered a glass of wine while deciding what food to order. It seemed to take forever for our waiter to come back or even acknowledge that he could be with us in a moment to even take our order. There were only three tables in the bar at the time ( another waitress appeared to be working the outside tables) , a friend at the bar and I won’t speak for his other obligations because I don’t know, but he could at least acknowledge us one of the times he walked past us. We finally ordered off the most expensive bar menu in town. 😳We were horrified at the prices and how they had increased. So we picked a couple meals and waited, and waited, and waited to place our order. Since the wine was now gone and we had no water or food we rejected the waiters offer for more wine when he shouted from behind the bar across the restaurant to us. Naturally we’re wondering where in the world our food was. 45 minutes for one appetizer and one salad dish? When we asked and he said he would go and check. He immediately came back with the food and basically tossed it in front of us. (Just how long had it been ready but not delivered?) It was rather offensive how he delivered it to us and I’m not remembering exactly what he said but my husband asked him to come back and talk to him. He mouthed off to us and kept walking. Something about it not being his fault. we would be fine with waiting as long as there’s some communication along with it. The restaurant was definitely not busy so we were puzzled at the length of time it was taking.
Needless to say the first time ever in our lives and we are in our 60s, we simply placed our napkins down on the table and walked out. Yes we left two empty wine glasses and two plates of food and the worst taste in our mouth‘s ever! We know we will never ever return after that experience and what a shame that was once such a great restaurant has let this happen.
My hope is that the manager will actually read this and recognize that the day we were there was Wednesday the 8th of June. I’m mentioning this so that the manager may know who the bartender was that day. Tall slender guy, dark hair, wearing jeans and an untucked shirt. He looked incredibly unprofessional but we just chalked it up to “ I guess that’s the best they can do these days”. I’m sure there was some sort of conversation that went on after we walked out. More than happy to talk to the manager if he reaches out to me. Worst restaurant...
Read moreJust over three weeks ago, we had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Greg’s Grill. There were a total of 14 of us. It was, to put it bluntly, a disaster! My mother in law had planned it for about 2 months. There was only one waitress, who did not take our order in a timely manner and did not check back to see if anyone needed anything, throughout the meal. In fact, due to the slowness, we were there for over 4 hours! We had a set menu, but not only did they run out of mashed potatoes, several in our party were not offered any substitutions. My husband and I had the filet mignons. They were not the 7 ounce steaks promised and paid for, but only 4 ounce, and cold! I had the baked potato, which was the worst I’ve ever had. The skin was unbelievably hard and the inside was a sickly watery gray. It appeared to have been microwaved for far too long!!! Seasonal vegetables were on the menu, however the only vegetable served was corn on the cob. It was so water logged from being frozen that it was inedible! Our dessert that night was their sticky toffee pudding. It was supposed to be served warm, so that the inside would be nice and gooey. It was hideous! It was served frozen hard, so that it couldn’t be eaten. The room hadn’t even been dusted, as cobwebs could clearly be seen. We were given a gift certificate for one complimentary meal at the end of the evening. The meal was so awful, that friends of ours who attended with us decided to keep the gift certificate they had purchased for us and scrambled to get us a new wedding gift. The manager Christie Schmidt was kind enough to provide two $50 gift certificates after she was in contact with my mother in law. We decided to give it another shot and went back with our friends and another couple last night. Although, just as during the rehearsal dinner, the appetizers and drinks were good, Greg’s Grill continued to disappoint. Dirty silverware. The Parmesan crusted chicken piccata was not crusted with anything, let alone Parmesan. The seasonal vegetable was the same water logged corn. The osso bucco (pork, NOT veal) was good, however. The mashed potatoes were clearly from a box. For a party of 6, we were quite surprised when we were served bread and butter, which consisted of a total of 6 very small slices of stale bread and two small lumps of butter. The portions of everything served were way too small for the outrageous cost. Thank God for all of the gift certificates we had with us because the total for the 6 of us came to over $350!!! Sadly, not only has Greg’s Grill lost any future business from us, but we cannot recommend...
Read moreSOOOOOOOOO disappointed!! We had made reservations (and checked them twice!) with the Greg's weeks in advance. We had a large group (15) of adults in town for a family reunion with an 8pm reservation. When we arrived, we were told that the group before us was still at our table and we needed to wait. We were finally seated 45 MINUTES LATE, and no attempt was made to make up for the delay. No one mention of a free drink or appetizer. We were unimpressed, but hopeful that the food would be worth it. We should have just left. When we were finally seated around 8:45, our server rattled off a long list of things they were "out of" and then explained that they were out of the mashed potatoes listed as a side on most items, but that they were making more and they would be ready in 15 minutes. We weren't worried, knowing that it would take at least that long to make our food. We ordered quickly (we'd had a LONG TIME to check out the menu!). After a long wait, the soups and salads arrived. Shortly after this at 9:45, another server or manager? came to tell us that, oh, sorry, they were not making more mashed potatoes, and had never planned to, our server was given the wrong info, and they would bring out our food with baked potatoes. No options were given, no explanation or apology. It was just plain strange. We had been good sports up until this point, but it was clear that our party was not important to the restaurant and we were all tired and hungry and sick of the whole experience. Then before the dinners were brought (at 10pm) the server threw 6 dessert menus on the table and said they had decided to give us free dessert for all of the delays. We had not planned on ordering dessert, at the evening had already run so long and we just wanted to get out of there. We said we didn't want dessert, but she pushed it, so we took some to go. As we were leaving we kindly told the server that we were pretty disgusted with how we'd been treated. There were 15 of us and the bill was well over $500, but they just kept saying how lucky we were to get free dessert. Certainly didn't feel lucky! Some of the food was good (clam chowder, salmon) some was just "meh" (Caesar salad, chicken). Probably would give the food 3/5 starts, but the extremely poor service/overall experience was no higher than a 1. We are happy to pay the price for a great restaurant, but great restaurants know how to treat their customers. Greg's was a huge...
