I love BBQ. I had no idea Ore Nells was around until I got a message about it. Passing through I happened to see it so I figured it would be a good time to stop. I definitely DONT regret that. I'm sorry I waited this long. I read the reviews so I came into this with an open mind. It's Texas BBQ. It's going to be spicy and flavorful. After reading one post, I'm going to caution that if you bring your children ask them to take the seasoning down a bit. I try to be impartial...and I say this often.....but the more I love something I tend to look for downsides. But each thing I tried I found myself saying Wow... this is the star of the meal. We got the platter for two and substituted one side for the jalapeño corn bread. While the title may scare some off....don't let it. You can taste the jalepenos....but on a spice level they are a 2 out of ten. On a flavor level I'm hostile because they went down to fast and I ran out. The brisket was amazing and juicy. The ribs were without flaw. The pulled pork was great. They all were stand alone meat dishes that highlighted the meat. I didn't get any overwhelming spice. The meat was rhe star. We got both a sweet and spicy sauce..... the spicy was good on everything.... the pulled pork seemed to pair better with the sweet. The mac and cheese was without flaw. But I have to say.... the Cole slaw was my own personal point of shock and awe. I'm used to traditional cole slaw. Here in New England it's either sweet and full of horseradish or doused with vinegar. This slaw was a reunion to the southwest. I've lived in Texas and oklahoma..so all I can say is if you want western flavor and to try something different....this is it. We got carryout but the atmosphere looked great. One of the owners was working the front and handed me my food. Prove point was where I expected. We spend just under 50$. Cons: love the Cole slaw but wish the slices were a little bigger. I skipped grabbing utensils and that's my bad... but there were no napkins or anything in the bag. I should've checked. Not their fault. So.... as far as barbeque....flavor....people...atmosphere... and the execution and developement of the food. I have to do 5 stars. I'm definitely going back. If you love food and aren't afraid of flavor...... this is going to be a favorite...
Read moreOur household is split on Ore Nell’s! I enjoyed the food and the overall vibe of the restaurant, but my husband wasn’t as impressed — he prefers some of the other barbecue options in town.
We went for dinner on a Friday night and found plenty of open seats. The atmosphere was refreshingly unpretentious, with cozy booths that made us feel tucked away and relaxed. Service started strong but fizzled out as the night went on. Our server stopped coming by for water refills, forgot the bread we ordered, and never followed up on my second drink request.
Now, the food. This is where the divide really shows. I enjoyed the barbecue (minus the sides), but my husband didn’t feel the same way. We ordered the barbecue for two, which comes with a little bit of everything, and added the half chicken — it was way too much food! The meats were solid overall, with good flavor and texture, though the pork was a bit bland for my taste. Unfortunately, the sides were a big miss. The macaroni was underwhelming, and the collard greens were only saved by the sprinkle of paprika on top. The potato salad was the best of the bunch but still nothing remarkable. On the bright side, the cocktails were great; well-made and reasonably priced. The cornbread special we had as an appetizer was also really good.
I would still go back, but there’s definitely room for...
Read moreWent there for the first time tonight, it's a Friday so the 40 minute wait was expected we got our table at about 7pm. Took a little while for our waitress to come to us but it also seemed like she might have been tending the bar as well so also not a big deal. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time, food came out after a reasonable period of time. I had the loaded fried potato with pulled pork, and though it looked like it would have been good it was unfortunately inedible as the potato was not cooked as in still crunchy/raw not just not baked enough and my pulled pork which by the way had a good taste was not hot at all I would say barely lukewarm. I had to send this back as it was inedible I chose not to order anything else because by the time the waitress had come back my husband was pretty much done his food. His meats though they had a good flavor were also only lukewarm which was very off putting. I will say that the waitress was very nice when I asked her to take my food back and take it off the bill as well as the gentleman who may possibly be the manager who came over to apologize about my food and ask if I wanted something to go. I am sure it is all just things that need to be worked out because they just opened. If I end up trying it again in the future I will edit review.
Side note it was very...
