My MIL and I met Barry when he opened Mandarin Gardens at the Big Bear Airport sometime after 1987. We had built our home in Fawnskin after the Pope/ Rozelle family bought property in 1957! My husband family and myself started going to Barry’s restaurant in 1987 at the Big Bear Airport! We lived walking up to this magnificent restaurant. We followed Aimee and Barry’s gorgeous daughter to the Evergreen Restaurant where we had magnificent views of the lake. The greatest family I have ever met in Big Bear Lake, the Rojas if Sonora Cantina and OCI, suggested I go to Dynasty Restaurant! I decided to but then a GC there! Matt, from China, who has lived here five or more years, confirmed that Barry was the owner of the Mandirin Garden's Restaurant I went to for years before he closed. Of course, he did not recognize me as I have not seen him since the early nineties, but I remembered his enthusiasm and charm! Many people from the Dick Kun, Snow Summit Era remember going to Mandarin Gardens! It was the hottest place in the late eighties and early nighties! It was such a joy to see Barry again, as he is ageless, even though he had knee surgery at Loma Linda Hospital! He is such a magnificent chef, and still remains so energetic! Although we spend six months here and six in the desert, I thank Maria Rojas for referring me to this excellent restaurant! My husband absolutely lived the sweet and sour chicken and I loved my appetizers! Barry is such an energetic man who seems twenty years younger than his age!’ He so enjoys cooking for his regulars, and goes out of his way to accommodate people, like Maria Rojas, who sometimes wants a special dish! I feel so bad that I did not know that Barry had opened this magnificent, very affordable, Chinese restaurant! Maria Rojas has been one of Barry’s best advocates! I had the better rolls I had ever eaten, and my husband said that the sweet and sour chicken was too much, but he ate it all! I just cannot tell how great Barry is, so kind, friendly, dear, gracious and his prices are, unbelievably, low! Matt, his waiter from China whose wife lives in Los Angeles, is so friendly, and kind! Just a young, kind young man who is so gracious living in Big Bear Lake, the greatest community for multiethnic, hard working people! I usually dine at Sonora Cantina or OCI, but I plan to dine at Dynasty when we return from the desert! Again, I hope people visit this restaurant! Amazingly inexpensive dining! Friendliest staff!!!! Retired teacher, counseling, school administrator! Rooms full of awards! Nothing makes me feel better than honoring hard working people who deserve recognition for their accomplishments! We all need to honor the kindest people we meet in the restaurant and...
Read moreI have a cabin in town. I know of what I speak. This is one of the best restaurants in all of BB. I have eaten here with my wife at least a half a dozen times. The food is excellent, the service is excellent. The only problem I ever had with them is one day I ordered a Pina Colada. Their machine was down so she brought the drink anyway but said it was free since it wasn't prepared correctly. I sent it back and ordered a LI ice tea, delicious. About everything on the menu is good. I've tried many combos. Never had food that wasn't above par. Once I had some shrimp that was a bit on the skimpy side. The owner sent out a new plate, gratis, that more than made up for the mistake. I hope to try everything on their menu. I see they have a buffet breakfast but have yet to try it. The fare at Teddy Bears is so good I always end up there for eggs and coffee in the mornings. Next best after these is the Black Diamond. Good bloody mary's and good pizza.
Addendum: Eaten here another six more times since my post. Always good and they got a new supplier for their shrimp. This place is excellent. But, hey, I don't buy the lobster at $31 a pond. I have never heard another customer complain while I'm there but can't say it doesn't happen. Once my table wasn't as clean as it should have been. They changed the cloth and cleaned the glass well. I...
Read moreThis is a very nice Chinese restaurant located in Big Bear. My wife and I took a wonderful overnight trip from Lake Forest. My wife had never been as she’s actually from China and wanted to experience the local mountains. Big Bear was beautiful as it always is, and I hadn’t been up there for probably a couple of decades. It’s changed quite a bit as far a tourist destination for sure. We stayed at an Air B&B by the lake that was wonderful and quiet. My wife prefers Asian food of any type Chinese being her favorite of course. So she I would say is an expert in Chinese cuisine, as far as being authentic or Americanized. We really enjoyed the food and she said it was very authentic in the Chinese tradition. The service was good and my wife being Chinese she ordered in her native language. I’ve been to China a few times with my wife, we were actually married in her native city of Beijing. So I’ve had many a meal in China myself. The food their is very distinctive and varies by region. Dynasty being of the Si Chian. At least this is what my wife told me and I have no reason...
