Went here with Diana and had a good meal but I wasn’t wowed by it didn’t feel worth the full bill. The drinks were fantastic. Highly recommend their spritzers. The salad however I wish was a little fresher it was a little whittled. I also would recommend to make sure they put the dressing on the side it was a little to much when they tossed it. The calamari was good but it was about average. As far as the main dishes good they were just meat no vegetables so if you were going to want them make sure you choose a side for the table to share. I had Pesce con limone wasn’t over breaded but the lemon caper sauce was way to much it over smothered the fish and had a little too much salt. Diana had the Tosca as chicken goes it was okay again to heavy on the sauce also the chicken was huge would have liked to see a smaller piece and made some vegetables to go with it. In all I would give the meal a B and it’s a good back up option but with all the other excellent options in Birmingham it wouldn’t be first choice.

Restaurant is always a great spot, but what truly makes it special is our waitress Jessica. She’s the only reason we come back every Sunday now. From the moment we walk in, she greets us with the warmest smile and treats us like family. Her attention to detail, kindness, and incredible memory for our favorite orders make every visit feel personal and unforgettable. Even on the busiest days, Jessica never misses a beat—her service is flawless. Sal’s is lucky to have her, and so are we. I would advise the owners to acknowledge her and thank her for how she treats us. It’s awesome to get this type of service from Jessica without having to go to a 5 star restaurant. We pass tons of restaurants from Rochester to Troy just to come here because Jessica was so incredible. You can so tell she just loves what she does and is so sweet. If you’re dining here, ask for Jessica—you won’t regret it!

Never been here before but decided to try it and made reservations for a Thursday. Parking was ok we parked on the street and walked.....the atmosphere was warm and welcoming when we got inside, they seated us right away. The waitress was friendly and attentive. We started with the garlic bread and 3 meatballs the garlic bread was ok and the meatballs were amazing I should have took more home. Then we ordered fettuccine Alfredo and chicken piccata the Alfredo was alright and the chicken piccata was delicious and we ended with the chocolate cream puffs for dessert. All in all I liked the place it was a little noisy but that's to be expected with a popular restaurant. The food was good and I might come back to try their other dishes

As a child, I grew up eating at Salvatore Scallopini. My grandparents were Italian, and this was the only place that met their standards. This was the only Italian food that Nonna would pay money to eat. (“Why would I pay for Italian food when I can make it better myself?!!”) About a week and a half ago, my sisters and I drove over two hours to dine at Salvatore Scallopini, hoping to relive some of our childhood memories. Salvatore Scallopini was the gold standard for Italian food after all. We were sorely disappointed. Why? Let me tell you! We arrived at 8:02 (we paid for metered parking, so I have the exact time) and asked for a table for 4. It was not particularly busy, so we were seated almost immediately. The waitress took our drink order a few minutes later, and then the wait began. The menu was completely different, missing some of our favorite childhood staples (stuffed shells, for one!). The bread basket no longer came with olive oil and sauce—we had to pay extra for that (it used to be free). Around 8:40 (40 minutes later) the waitress came back to take our food order. When we got our soups and salads it was past 9:00. We had purchased movie tickets for later that night—we wanted to make a date out of such a long drive—so around 9:15 we asked the waitress to package our food to go. We were a little bummed that it had taken so long, but we didn’t have a problem with taking our food to go and we didn’t say anything indicating that we had a problem. Within the next 10 minutes, the manager came storming out. She began interrogating us about why we asked for our food to go. We told her we had other obligations and that we hadn’t known that it would take so long to dine at “Sal’s”. She pulled out the order receipt and said very rudely, “Well your order was put in at 8:40.” We explained to her that we had been there since 8 o’clock. She rolled her eyes at us and said, “I don’t think so.” I have never been to a restaurant where the manager came out and was rude to me for asking for my food to go. That was a first, and let me tell you I hope it’s a last. We left money on the table for the drinks, the bread, and the soup, but we left immediately after that interaction. There was no reason for her to come out and be so rude to us. There was really no reason for her to come out and speak to us at all, as we did not have a problem. This experience was such a disappointment and I will not be back. You’d better believe that my whole Italian-American family has heard about this experience and we will no longer be patrons. One star because the minestrone...

It is called Sal’s now the Workers were wearing Shirts with the new name on them.

They open at 4 we waited outside in the cold and Snow!! I had to knock on the window of the restaurant for the Rude hostess to let us in!! At 4:12 pm.

She took us to a little table with not enough room for one!! I told her if we could not have a larger table we would be leaving. She took us by the bar and the cold entrance. I asked the waitress why we had to sit here that we have been long time customers and we asked for a booth. She said that the Black Girl was new and she would seat us where we requested!!

We did not order wine and all we were offered was Water in a Juice Glass. No ice Tea or anything!!

The salad was a small portion about half of the usual size and little dressing. For years it went with the meal. Now everything is a separate Price. While eating a young male came to the table said leave your salad fork for your meal and you don’t be getting Another one. Give me the extra glasses and plates and silverware!! I told him that I would keep a clean fork and he could take the salad fork!!

The pasta that I did order was floating in olive oils and it was not what what I did order. I asked for Alfredo sauce over pasta and it was cold and stuck together and with no sauces!!

The veal was in a separate plate and burned so bad that I could not even cut it with a knife. It was floated in old grease!!

What you see in the Website here is not what you do get and the workers do not know one thing about Italian Food. They are Rude and act and look like young high school Children.

The Desert menu is a Joke!!

No coffee was offered and we had to stop by Starbucks for coffee.

The prices are Double for half the Amount of Food that my dog would not eat when I got home. The main meal is floating in old Grease and burnt so bad it would not even cut with a fork and a Knife.

If you are looking for real Italian Food this Restaurant is NOT the one for real Italian Food. It looks like the Restaurant has been sold!!

Now I am so sick to my Stomach and vomiting from the Food I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!!

The service and the Food is not Worth the over Priced items that they are selling!!

I was in Italy and ate at real Italian Food Restaurant and nothing is served in old grease and we were there first Customer of the Day!!
