Overcrowded and Too Noisy
I had high hopes for wilder’s restaurant to be different than what you see in Birmingham places such as market/shift/ 220 Merrill / but the experience was disappointing. The place is small making the noise level of people sitting next to you unbearable. Guests were talking so loudly that I could barely hear my boyfriend sitting across from me or even hearing what our server was saying to us. My boyfriend decided to sit next to me so we can just hear each other better. We asked our server to switch our table around and she said that her manager wouldn’t want to do that for us and to just “ make it work”. The restaurant seemed overbooked, with tables crammed too close together, making it feel more chaotic than enjoyable. We decided to leave after our first drink and the only thing they offered us to make the experience better is a free drink!
The atmosphere made it impossible to relax and enjoy anything. On top of all that, it was my boyfriend’s birthday and we wanted to enjoy our time. If you prefer a quieter dining experience, this may not be the best choice. I won’t be returning unless they find a way to manage the crowd and noise better to make it a fine dinning rather than the typical noisy bars that are...
Read moreWe visited Wilder’s for the first time and had a mixed experience. We arrived on time for our reservation but had to wait almost 22 minutes to be seated, which was a bit frustrating. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and definitely had a classic steakhouse vibe, but it was much louder than expected—steakhouses usually have a more moderate noise level, but that’s something beyond control.
As for the food, the highlight was definitely the filet mignon, which was cooked to absolute perfection. However, most of the side dishes were underwhelming. The carrot truffles tasted like plain boiled carrots, and the potato purée lacked flavor. The mushrooms were okay but nothing special, and the pasta dish was unfortunately bland. On the bright side, the zucchini fries were excellent, and the Caesar salad was refreshing and delicious.
Service was another area that needed improvement. The staff wasn’t very helpful and seemed to have a bit of a cold attitude, which made the overall experience less enjoyable.
That being said, we’re definitely open to giving Wilder’s another try in a few months, hoping to see improvements in both service and food quality. It has the potential to be a great spot with just...
Read moreI wanted to check it out. It wasn't busy at all. I asked the host (girl) if I could sit at the bar she said sure. Then some older gentlemen intercepted me saying the bar was reserved for pato reservations and I wasn't allowed in. I was dressed upper casual I was respectful. I had him repeat himself cause I wanted to make sure I heard him right.. he was very condescending and pertentious.. I've been to finer restaurants in manhattan milan south beach Rome Munich and countless other spots never an issue. Before you deny someone make sure you make it believable. If he would have said you need a button shirt aka a certain dress code I would have accepted it. I walked back later to find the place wasn't busy at all.
Tip to everyone the food might be good but you can get a better else wear and a better setting and definitely better service..maybe if I would have valet my car and he would have seen what I was driving he would have been a bit nice who knows . Terra kitchen is a better spot better vibe . Or just hit a good spot in Detroit if you want expensive food.. Peace and love to.you all...
