We had a mixed experience at Bacon Hill Hotel. On arrival, our room wasn’t ready. After a delay and a briefly offered drink (which never materialised), another staff member gave us a different available room. It was clean, spacious and very comfortable but situated opposite the lift, which was a bit noisy with people chatting outside our door at times. ||The second night was disturbed by a mechanical whirring sound that kept starting and slowing down throughout the night. It seemed to come from elsewhere in the building.||Breakfast was disappointing. Most items had run out. I waited around 30 minutes for croissants to appear. The selection was very limited, especially for those with dietary needs. My husband is coeliac and while there were a few gluten-free options (some pastries, oats, fruit), there was no juice and only cold boiled eggs. When we asked for gluten-free bread, we were told it would cost $3. When I said I didn’t think we should be charged and the staff member replied, “Just this once,” in a tone that felt quite rude.||We also had a billing issue. Although we’d paid in advance through Expedia, our card was charged again at checkout. I asked for a bill to be emailed but never received it. Thankfully, we spotted the charge while waiting for our taxi and spoke to receptionist who charged us. She showed us that she’d issued a refund but over over a week later I hadn’t gone through. I had to contact Expedia to resolve it.||Overall, the hotel felt like it expected guests to be grateful to stay there, rather than making them feel...

I don’t like to leave a negative review but this hotel needs to do better. We stayed one night and it was supposed to be a treat before taking a long haul flight home.

Room - Not clean, dust and half eaten cookie down the side of the bed. A water bottle left from previous guest.

The morning we were due to check out there was no hot water for a shower, poor communication on this issue by reception.

Then we got a call from reception to say that a security maintenance person was due to visit our room during our stay which could have waited for after check out.

We got fed up waiting for updates and decided to endure cold showers, so luckily we missed the visit but this was not okay given the situation.

Front desk was very unapologetic about the lack of hot water and did not offer any kind of compensation, we had to ask for it.

The service was not good enough for the pricing. Hotels should be warm and welcoming, nobody assisted with our bags or held the doors for us, some very small things go along way in the service industry.

The individual at the front desk made us feel like he didn’t care and it wasn’t his problem that there was no hot water, no apologies, no empathy, no offer for a later check out, he did not demonstrate any initiative to solve the problem or help us in anyway.

Such a let down because it’s a charming building in a great location and has potential to be a great...

Beacon Hill Hotel was carefully researched and chosen based on its description and photos on its own website. As a global traveller I prefer to stay and support independent local hotels that embody the character of the location and I believe my accommodation choice is critical to my enjoyment of where Iam travelling. Beacon Hill promised "European hospitality meets New Englan charm" and ""European sensibilities and world class service". At this price point the hotel was incredibly dissapointing. Firstly concierge explained nothing on our arrival. Secondly the room has no basic provision of water, tea , coffee facilities in room or elsewhere in the hotel. The website states "Your stay includes a European-Style breakfast" but we had to ask and apparently not on weekends. The bar is also closed Sunday night which I only found out at my table in the bistro onsite when I ordered. Concierge was fast asleep on the lounge upon our early departure and remained that way while we waited for our Uber. I dont believe in all my years of extensive travel through Europe, Australia and my current USA travels have I been so dissapointed . Just basic things I know but at this price point I was let down. Basically the hotel website promotion does not equal the actual experince in this instance...

It's a quaint hotel in a great location. The bistro food, Cobb salad and bruschetta are excellent! The apple dessert to end the flourless chocolate cake need improvement. As for the rooms themselves, our room is in the need of a refreshment... Shower tiles were dirty, the tub faucet was coming off the wall and the bathroom sink was cracked. With all that we still loved it and we would stay there again. 😀

A pretty nice restaurant, under a boutique hotel. The Duck liver was wonderful, not as good as foie gras, but had the special arrangement. The soup/sauce for Mussels was light, which I do like. Shrimp for the main course was fresh. The only problem was the AC. I was there during the summer, and their AC didn't work. It RUINED the experience. I rated based on food and service.
