I can honestly say that this is a place that should not be open to the public. Went here with a group for a birthday and we were severely mistreated and underwhelmed. Our server was very kind and caring but the actual service we received was abysmal. First round of drinks took about a half hour and our appetizers an hour and a half. Two members of our party had to leave because they really needed to eat and it was clear that everything here took itâs time hitting the table. Looking around the dining room it was clear that just about everyone was having the same experience.
Would have gladly had multiple rounds of drinks each and really enjoyed ourselves if this establishment would feel up to that. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. The birthday girl received a drink (after a long wait) that had a piece of glass in it. Finally the time came for us to order our dinner. 20 minutes after doing so we were informed that they were out of some of the dishes we had ordered. Usually no big deal but it was very disheartening that in that time span the kitchen hadn't even begun our order. By the time our entrees came out (2 hours and 15 minutes into this waking nightmare) they were wrong, overcooked, or inedible. The pasta here is served in a puddle of lukewarm water. The steaks are all cooked to different temperatures than you request. The pork chop is aggressively salty.
I took some time to talk to the management here and just tell them about our experience and give some feedback. I was unbelievably shocked at the confrontational, defensive, rude, and all together insanity of the response I was met with. I was first told that they had just reopened a couple weeks ago post covid. I am very sympathetic to this however the night we had was beyond the pale. If this is how your restaurant is going to treat guests then close either forever or when you have some semblance of hospitality and can give a decent time to those who spend their money here. I was then told that we were being abusive to our server and cursing at them. I told the manager I really didn't know what they were referring to and that I was sorry if it came across that way. I was asked what could be done to make everything right and was shocked. Literally do anything. Of course this place is run by charlatans seeing as how none of the inedible food and lukewarm or incorrect drinks were comped or taken care of. I couldn't speak to them any longer as it felt like they just wanted to escalate the situation and not talk about what had happened.
I do not know on a human level how this place can with a clear conscience take money from people. Please avoid it at all costs. Long waits. Bad food. Even...
Read moreGrab a pal you want to catch up with and go get some buck-a-shuck and dirty martinis at Carrie Nation. I've been there about 4 times and each was delightful. The atmosphere is clean, dark but welcoming and comfortable. There are so many nooks and rooms to experience this place. Tonight, my friend and I tried the front and back bars, but found them packed with crowds of people who knew each other deep in loud conversation. We returned to the host desk to get a table for two and our server was friendly, fast and helpful. We each got dirty martinis and a dozen oysters. The oysters were cold, fresh and tasted like the ocean. They came with sides of the classic cocktail sauce and horseradish and lemon, but also had a wine/shallot mix and a vinegary tomato juice. I took turns with each on the oysters. The martinis were delicious and smooth. I asked for extra olives and got 2 total, but maybe there is an olive shortage and I want us all to have olives, right? I've eaten other food there like the truffle fries, tenders and cheese board and all were awesome, especially the cheese board selection with honey included. There are the two bars, pool tables in the back, lots of tables and comfy seats, benches and high-tops in so many configurations to accommodate any type of group. I'd recommend if a spot looks crowded, find another because it will just get worse as people pack in to this popular spot. The bartenders are friendly and efficient, but looks like they could use a few more on staff. The server we had was top notch attentive and friendly, so grateful the lack of bartenders encouraged us to his service. And those oysters: 4-7 on weeknights are buck-a-shuck and it's perfect for after a long day of work. Thank you, will be back with...
Read moreThe menu here is surprisingly affordable for its location in Boston, and we were delighted to find the usual classic American food like chicken, steak, salmon, and mac and cheese, but a surprising array of good choices for vegetarians--like my Sweet Potato BBQ Bowl, which had its namesake sweet potatoes, with delicately braised kale in olive oil, spiced garbanzos, grilled red onion on a bed of wild rice. I loved it so much, I had to make sure it was olive oil, and for my question, got a visit from Chef Christian, to assure me it was olive. They don't use Canola at all.
My husband got the clam chowder, served in a delicious cream sauce with two clams in the shell, and potatoes and peas. It was very fresh, and very good. He also got the warm spinach salad with a parmesan and olive oil dressing, and bacon, grilled onion, and bleu cheese. All was very tasty.
My friend got the roasted beet and citrus salad, with pine nuts and a cumin-infused basil and yogurt vinegarette, which she said was very good, but a little sparse as a meal. So she led the way to the apple crisp, which she did get, and also we did. This had a mix of dried apricots, and fresh apples, with a pistachio crumble topping servedwith a large scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yum.
Our group had a private room, with a door, which the manager suggested closing when we asked for the music to be turned down. He cherrily did so, and made sure our room was quieter.
Our servers handled the group of 35 easily, and got every order right with no fuss.
I recommend this place for groups especially, but really just for a very nice lunch or dinner...
