I don't like writing bad reviews but this restaurant, The Peregrine, has a very elevated attitude for what it is.
The menu is very limited and ludicrously expensive for what is being served. An example is the $25 for what I would call in my country an English breakfast (scrambled eggs, salmon and bacon.) The ownerJazayeri is very cheeky to charge this for what in the end is scrambled eggs, a small piece of salmon and bacon (plus the added on service fee- see my added review below)
I menitoned that I thought this was quite a high price to Marissa the manager- a pompus young woman, who responded in a curt and sour manner.
The confusion around tipping too is vexing. There is a stated - as of 2020- 15% administrative fee charged to all checks. When I first went to The Peregrine in 2020 on business, staying at The Whitney, I was informed at that time that this was "temporary thing because of Covid". This 15% fee is paid to back of house and salaried staff who are not legally allowed to receive tips, I was told. Now I am a believer in paying people, I believe in paying salaries- but the confusion arises when servers later describe the "fee" as not really a "tip" for them. This of course "shames" we customers.
A 30% on top of my English breakfast is now priced at $33. This is way beyond anything i'm willing to pay for such a meal. Back in England I can have this breakfast for roughly 15 pounds at a 5 star hotel in a magnificent garden (take for example the Royal Crescent in Bath).
I have given 2 stars because the little garden behind the restaurant which is rather charming, but not enough, however, to merit the extremely grandiose attitude of this place, the owner and...
Read moreAwful experience. Tried reaching out to restaurant off line, but no response. So reaching out here so at least others are warned.
We were a group of 6 at Table 41 which essentially shared space with the lobby couch.
I will say that the server did his best, but was clearly short staffed.
Otherwise the food was really awful -
The cocktails took forever to get and were totally lackluster without flavor. Mine had a very odd taste and was difficult to drink. We were celebrating a birthday and I didn’t want to ruin the vibe by sending things back, but we probably should have. The “Snack” toasts were comprised of essentially white bread with some butter smeared on a a plate with some dry old appearing anchovies placed on the side. The other “snack dishes” all seems to have the same cheese placed on the plate in no specific order or fashion with some pieces of chocolate that were few and hard to find. The ham was a couple of slices of oily meat and totally gross. All were totally weird and nothing beyond what you might pick up at a supermarket. The mains were also essentially tasteless across the board. Several of our group had the Papardelle which looked awful and had no taste whatsoever. Just clotted cream on noodles. Hard to eat. My son’s hamburger was also standard and essentially just edible. The deserts were equally forgettable. And the total meal with tip came to about $450!!? We eat at good restaurants all over Boston, and this was one of the worst meals we’ve had in a long time.
Currently it feels like at Peregrine - no one is at the wheel....
Read morePeregrine is a cozy and friendly eatery inside The Whitney Hotel. I have been a frequent costumer of theirs for years. Their drinks vary from "phenomenal" to "okay" at best depending on the bartender. (Diego was their best bartender)
On July 31st, 2025 I ordered the following Menu items: Beef Cheek Sandwich; Brie and Jam Toast; The Goldfinch; Tinto de Verano; & Paper Falcon
While the drinks were served within 10 minutes, I waited nearly an hour for my food to arrive...but it never did. Normally, their wait times are 20-30 minutes for food. Our server, Maria, took our order for drinks and food. It was around the 45 minute mark when I spoke to a secondary server, Tony, who let me know that the order was never placed.
No one had come around to ask us about the status of our food or if we needed anything else. I absolutely despise leaving bad reviews, but Peregrine completely lacked the costumer service that makes them stand out. After all this, there was no sort of compensation for the lost time. This is truly disheartening and I will be relaying my thoughts with food critics around Boston in hopes that they too can be warned of a...
