It looked cute and had good reviews so we tried it out. The waiters made eye contact with us when we first came in, but then the guy went back to looking at his phone and it took a few minutes for them to come to us to seat us. Mind you, it was not busy.
We were sat at the bar but no menus were given nor a QR code. Had to flag down the guy to give us a plastic thing with their menu QR code on it.
We were finally able to order the sea bass ceviche and paella. Their menu had reviews that you can read, which people only had good things to say. Now, I’m convinced it was probably the employees/friends who left those good reviews…
We waited about 30 minutes for a simple ceviche and it had a very strong tangy taste only in the beginning and as you chew, the taste completely disappears within a few seconds and the ceviche becomes completely bland. The green pepper (which I thought was a bell pepper as there was also a red one in there), was extremely spicy and I wish it had a warning because I’m unable to eat spicy foods.. Even my husband said it was too spicy, who normally likes to eat quite spicy things.
As for the paella, it came out after about 45 minutes, which is to be expected. However, it wasn’t even a paella; unlike any paella I have had before. First of all, it was so fishy that we only had a bite and couldn’t eat it anymore. Mind you, the thing is $42. The smell wafted to us even though we had pushed it away as far as we could; that’s how fishy it was. Secondly, it was very watery and had a lot of “juice” that was covering the rice about halfway, which should NOT be the be case.
We simply asked for the check but when the waitress came and asked if we wanted a box, we said no thank you, and I think she got offended by it. She made a face and was asking why, we told her it’s not quite our style and that it was a bit too fishy for us. No attempts were made to offer any reconciliation, which is fine, but she became standoffish like she took that personally. It also took another five minutes of staring at the waiters and once again, had to flag them down for them to come take the card so we could pay and leave.
Overall, it was a terrible experience and we ended up getting different food delivered to...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at PURO Ceviche Bar on Newbury Street in Boston, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and friendly welcome from the staff, setting the tone for a delightful evening.
The ambiance of PURO is vibrant and inviting, with modern decor that beautifully complements the fresh and lively nature of their cuisine. The atmosphere is perfect for both casual dining and special occasions.
The star of the show, of course, is the ceviche. Each dish is a masterpiece, bursting with fresh flavors and expertly balanced ingredients. The variety on the menu is impressive, catering to all palates with traditional options and creative, innovative twists. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the presentation is nothing short of artful.
I also appreciated the attention to detail in the drink offerings. The cocktails are thoughtfully crafted, perfectly pairing with the dishes to enhance the overall dining experience. The wine list is equally impressive, offering a range of selections that complement the ceviche and other menu items beautifully.
The service at PURO is top-notch. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. They are more than happy to offer recommendations and ensure that every guest has a memorable dining experience.
Overall, PURO Ceviche Bar is a true gem on Newbury Street. Whether you're a ceviche enthusiast or trying it for the first time, this place is a must-visit. I can't wait to return and explore more of their...
Read moreI love seafood and ceviche so I was excited to try PURO ceviche bar. We tried two ceviches and a paella. Overall there were some hits and some misses. We tried to go by the ratings that were left on the ordering website, but those were purely positive reviews so didn't help much in choosing.
The sea bass ceviche was very mid. Just a lot of sour mango liquid dominating the flavor. The fish was fine I guess but I couldn't really appreciate it.
The ceviche mixto was good! But of course more expensive. The best part was the shrimp, which was very plump and juicy. I would get the shrimp ceviche instead. The rest of the seafood in it was good but not outstanding. The sauce was more creamy so it was more mild and had more dimensions than the sea bass ceviche. I would go for this sauce for future ceviche.
The paella was good but not great. It was quite wet and saucy, and rather than having some crisp at the bottom, was just burnt (but simultaneously some of the rice was underdone). The seafood (clam, mussels, squid) was cooked slightly over what I would've liked, but still had good seafood flavor. The shrimp was, once again, the star. I could've done without the chorizo. Overall I would prefer paella at Barcelona for the flavor, texture, and seafood, but PURO does have better shrimp.
We also got the virgin mojito which was the perfect sweetness level and flavor and went really well with the food.
My ultimate conclusion here was that I would like to know the shrimp provider for this restaurant. I could see myself coming back here just for the...
