The cause of being an out of towner and making too many wrong turns led me to this magnificent gem of a diner. South Street Diner has everything right going for it. There was a line to enter the diner at 2 am and doormen to facilitate a smooth and steady transition into the diner. The food is very fresh, looks great and tastes amazing when you crave a late evening 2am breakfast meal. Last but not to say the least, from the line cooks to the serves were excellent. It has The most chill vibes from their synergy of providing above and beyond style of excellent service. I was very happy just watching the ladies work like the ants do without any qualms if someone accidently ordered twice. You see everything being cooked in front of you and the sounds and smells of sizzling food orders were making me crave for it even more. It was just fluid and everyone got along in harmony with a high volume of food orders being requested and everyone sang along with the music that was jammin' from the jukebox. The customers were singing in tune from separate tables. Beautiful! I wish all places were like this. It has the real family feel while dining there and not just the feed the people and grab your cash kind of deal. The prices are affordable $-$$ for an individual order. This was an accident that turned into a blessing. I was sad leave to continue my journey home because a few more wrongs turns were awaiting me ahead. Lol Please check out South Street Diner and support these hardworking ladies because we do not need another amazing such as this one closing down. I am happy just remembering this diner. Thank you to everyone working at South Street Diner for being the best at what you do. It is a small diner that is worth squeezing into. It did not have a ramp or wheelchair accessible entrance. A few steps to enter the diner. Street parking only.

Excellent service with a smile and laughs, even at 4:30am 🤠😸On-the-other hand, the grub…. The bacon was decent, tasty, but was drowning in grease and undercooked/floppy… the corn-beef hash could be so much better, it looked like canned cat food tbh, and tasted pretty much like nothing either, not appetizing to look at whatsoever, the side of hollandaise sauce made it palatable enough to swallow. The grilled cinnamon bun was just okay, but it had so much potential to be something much tastier and worth the price, but (“BUT” being the theme here) just tasted like butter with a subtle hint of cinnamon on charred toast. The “Belgian” waffle for $8 was plain/bland, not the right texture and lacking sugar and that “crisp” it should have, I wouldn’t pay that price again for a SINGLE waffle comparable to Eggo frozen waffles, and they could liven up their options for toppings/combos and include some in the standard price. Altogether, after being doused with syrup and smothered with sweet whipped cream, the dishes were satisfying and filling but lacking in many ways to justify the price point. $36+ for a single person I would think constitutes far better ingredients and preparation for each dish. But maybe I’m just expecting more coming from a background serving in a restaurant that specializes in decadent morning grub for similar pricing but much better quality!?

With classic rock and funky lights, South Street Diner offers a vintage American diner experience. It is renowned as the only full-service restaurant open 24/7 in the city, so understandably, it gets crowded during late nights and early mornings. Food here was fairly basic. On my first visit, I got the diner special and everything except for the toasts was mediocre. The toast was drenched in good amount of salty butter, so it was a perfect hangover food. On subsequent visits, I tried their smoked brisket, mixed grill, and the meat lover omelet. Unfortunately, the brisket was a disappointment – tough to the point of being inedible. The mixed grill was passable but lacked that special touch, while the omelet, with its hearty mix of meats, managed to fare better, albeit without standing out. The overall sentiment was that the pricing didn’t align with the quality and taste offered. Service, while efficient, left a bit to be desired. It seemed like they were focused too much on fast turnover rates as they were trying to rush us out by giving us bills with the food. Overall, South Street Diner offers a nostalgic American diner experience embedded in its ambiance but falls short when it comes to the plate. While a feasible option for those seeking alternatives to McDonalds, I probably wouldn’t go back again.

TL:DR; walk to chinatown, there are many other places open late. I arrived on a delayed Megabus around 1:30am and was starving. This was the closest place to south station that was open. Walked in, a girl shouted from the end of the bar to sit wherever I wanted, the place was maybe half full with a dozen customers and about as many staff. After 5 min, no one had approached me and I had already noticed 2 of the 4 servers were just playing on their phones. I had to stand to get a menu myself. A bossy lady walked by and asked if I wanted anything to drink, asked for just water; another 5 min and no one came with water or to take my order. I stood up again to ask for water to the busyboy, now and the bossy lady put down her phone to come take my order. About 5 more min after I got the saddest looking Reuben I have ever seen with the worst corned beef I had in a long time, sauce dripping all over the place and characterless unseasoned fries. Ate, paid and left. I almost regret tipping. Since it was not too cold I decided to walk a little bit more towards chinatown and saw plenty of places, still open and bustling with people.

Stopped at the South Street Diner due to having seen it on the Today Show a few weeks ago for thie Boston Cream pancakes...it was a party of 9 of us. One of the bunch of us ended up ordering the BC pancakes...they were quite a treat and very dessert like, and oh so good!! I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich. It was very good, the only thing missing was the raspberry preserves...but it was on point and delicious. It came with diced potatoes which were very good, but a tad salty, but still good. One had the club sandwich and a Texas burger and the rest ordered breakfasts and two grilled cheese sandwiches. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Three got chocolate frappes, those were the bomb! I highly recommend you try one! Our server was super friendly, helpful, and prepped some of the drinks, including the frappes. I didn't catch his name, but he had ear plugs and tattoos. Super cool dude. Another shout out to the chef, thank you for your cooking skills. I highly suggest you give South Street a try. Next time I'm in Boston, I definitely will.
