Unfortunately I need to give this place 1/5 stars due to over the phone customer service. I went to the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed my night. But when calling the restaurant after realizing I left an important belonging, I was patched in to a help line. The service representative was extremely rude, unprofessional, and quite difficult to speak with. They insisted that the restaurant was open, but that they could not put me in touch with the restaurant I left just moments ago. I want to note that the onsite bartenders and managers were incredibly courteous and professional while I was dining. I called 3 times about the item left in the restaurant, hoping to get a different representative, the first two times were in hopes that someone would patch me in to the restaurant across town, about to close, the one service representative speaking with me both times on the phone chose to be both rude and unhelpful and would not put me in touch with anyone at the restaurant or with the management team. I can understand procedure, but I cannot understand someone who decides to belittle customers, laugh at their inconvenience and misfortune, or raise their voice when being asked questions about how one might get in touch with a general manager. I’m sure he was having a really bad day, but he literally laughed at me over the phone when I asked if he could patch me into the restaurant that he insisted was still open. After arriving at the restaurant after running across town, knocking on the locked door, and by some miracle retrieving my bag with the help of a very kind bartender and manager. I called again to try and reconcile with this rude man, pointing out the need for a direct line to the restaurant he instructed me to run to. The customer service representative insisted that I was unreasonable for asking to be patched through to the restaurant I dined at just 30 minutes ago and just entered moments ago. The customer service representative then hung up on me for the third time. My suggestion is: record your phone calls, this guy is losing...
Read moreThe restaurant itself is beautiful aesthetically with ambient lighting and comfortable seating, however there was a disconnect in regard to hospitality and we found the food. In regard to hospitality our server was great she was very attentive however we had a poor interaction with what I assume was a manager…
We had reservations for a party of 4, half of our party arrived on time at 5:30 and were sat. While waiting for the rest of our group to arrive we ordered a bottle of champagne and were relaxing when we were approached by a gentleman at 5:50pm who I believe was a manager. He asked if we were waiting for the rest of our party which we stated yes to, then he asked how much longer they would be as “The 6pm dinner rush was coming in for their reservations.” We were caught off guard by this as we were just getting settled which made us feel very unwelcome.
As someone who has worked in hospitality I can understand if there are time constraints and how accommodating parties can be challenging if a table is lingering. However, taking into consideration we had only been there 20 minutes, had reservations which placed a hold on my credit card that would charge me if members of our party were unable to attend, and had ordered a bottle of champagne that was $100+, being approached regarding this was extremely off putting and inhospitable, not to mention the rest of our party who is 65+ arrived a few minutes after this interaction.
Regarding the food: Oysters- small in size a little overpriced Escargot- good portion sized and flavor Duck- was cooked perfectly however was a little over salted Halibut- cooked beautifully as well but salty Risotto- good flavor not too salty Pasta- good flavor and portioned perfectly
Overall, based on our experience this place is a solid 3.5, with so many options in Boston I’d probably go somewhere else like...
Read moreWe recently dined at Troquet for a special evening of milestone celebrations, and while I truly wanted to love the experience, it unfortunately fell short of expectations.
To be fair, we were informed ahead of time that the restaurant would be hosting an event later that evening, so the slightly rushed pace of the meal wasn’t entirely unexpected. Still, it did make it hard to settle in and fully enjoy what was meant to be a relaxed, celebratory dinner.
Several dishes missed the mark, especially given the price point. The wagyu steak, which we had high hopes for, lacked the tenderness and richness we anticipated, it came across as rather plain. The foie gras special also didn’t quite justify its cost, and the escargot had a flavor that felt off. On the other hand, the bone marrow appetizer was delicious and the standout of the evening. The salmon crudo and razor clam ceviche were okay but didn’t particularly impress, and while the duck and wagyu steak were fine, they weren’t especially memorable. The surprising star of the dinner was the roasted half chicken with crispy skin and moist meat that were perfectly executed.
I also have to mention the bread roll served at the beginning of the meal as it was warm, soft, and absolutely delightful. I wish the rest of the courses had maintained that level of comfort and satisfaction.
Ultimately, I left feeling a bit disappointed, especially given that we chose Troquet over three other options for such meaningful celebrations. That said, I recognize the unique circumstances of the evening, and I’m open to returning, perhaps to try their multi-course tasting menu at a more leisurely pace.
For now, I would give Troquet a 3 out of 5 stars, with genuine hope that a future visit will offer the kind of experience I know they’re capable...
