I've shopped at the co-op for years (first as a non-member during vacations to Bozeman and then as a member when my husband and I moved here). I have found the quality and variety of local/organic/natural produce, groceries and products to be awesome. Be advised, they don't stock carry exactly the same produce every single day (as produce supply and seasonality varies), but I love that they focus on local products as much as possible. Also, they have a really cool cafe upstairs with a good view of the Bridgers if you want to grab a coffee/lunch there.
While they aren't the cheapest game in town, I think that their product quality, variety, sustainability, and vision are definitely worth supporting. Also, they are always bringing in local producers & farmers to sample their products and engage with customers...way cool
As a side note, I read one reviewer who had a poor experience with the service, but I have never personally experienced any pretension (even when it was just the late evening "chip and beer" run). I've always had great service and everyone has been really helpful and knowledgeable. So don't worry if you don't feel as hippie/food-savvy as the staff. They're really nice (especially the meat/fish guys - always great help!) Just ask!
A few tips: 1) Bring bags if you have any, you get a 10 cent discount for each! 2) If you don't have your own bags, there's a place to grab re-usable boxes. Lots of folks do this, so just ask the cashier if you can't see them. 3) Check out their sales flyers, they always have some good deals. And usually the aisle ends have all the sale items. 4) They have a killer bulk section. You can bring your own containers of they have bags you can label there. (And there's usually an employee hanging nearby, so ask questions if you've got them! 5) Their beer selection isn't the cheapest, but they usually have a few bomber bottles of things you can't get elsewhere. And I think you can request special orders if you can buy by the case. So, if you love good food,...
Read moreI've been shopping here for years, but after getting food poisoning from a deli sandwich, I don't think I'll be returning again. I came here specifically for clean food thinking this business would appreciate my logic. If a co-op like this can't serve clean, organic food, what is the point in overpaying for everything? Good food is worth the price. Food poisoning, however, is owed more than a simple refund.
Also, this co-op went back on their commitment to the community, as it was originally posted on the front of the building, stating, "This building is community owned."
As a co-op member and therefore shareholder, I was turned away from the store for peacefully defending our freedoms by attempting to shop through the store without a face mask, but they would not hear my defense. Why was I not given a vote when this decision was made? The co-op's response to this question was as much answered by the removal of the community ownership plaque as it was never fairly addressed in the first place, let alone by the group of passive aggressive, angry employees who forced me to leave the store without first hearing my opinion. I spent these last years thinking a business like this would stand for honestly, integrity and the people of our community. I do not require a muzzle over my mouth to qualify for my right to exercise free speech. I would like to see my membership refunded. It has honestly benefitted me little over the...
Read moreI have been shopping here for several years and spending $$$ as I am always trying to find fresh organic produce and healthy foods. I would say that they have some pretty good produce. The fruit section can be tricky sometimes. In the prepared food section the selection isn’t too bad but there are GMO’s in there and non-organic ingredients such as canola oil. For the cost at the food bar they could opt for a better quality oil than the gmo ones. A good quality olive oil would be a much better option. Also they’ve new raising their prices constantly. The pack of organic ground beef went from $6 to $10 in just a couple of years. The issue is that I find customer service to be severely lacking in courtesy. I had a couple of bad experiences one of them was at the coffee shop where Grayson (a college student maybe ) talked down to me when I asked for a coffee refill once. And Hilary did nothing about it. They seem to cater to a certain group of people and are not really inclusive or open minded as they claim to be. I find their statement very interesting: ‘ We cater to all kinds of people, races and religions’ something like that The implication is that people aren’t truly the same or equal and that some are thought to e better than others. Very arrogant and unfriendly employees with some rare exceptions. That’s Bozeman Montana!! The little town with the little...
